Making an appearance with Shannon Sharpe on “Club Shay Shay”, Fat Joe revealed that he had some close class with the law.

“I had the cops on me. The cops tried to frame me, like, three times for murder. This is a true story,” Fat Joe explained. “I don’t really talk about it but […] The police was trying to get me out of there! The people was trying to get me out of there.”

While he didn’t reveal specifics about the alleged incidents, the “Lean Back” rapper said he had a target on his back.

“It was like public enemy number one, but my community loved me so they would protect me. When the cops came, the old ladies would let me in their house and they would save me all the time,” he added.

In 2004, Fat Joe’s former bodyguard was charged with a Bronx murder in 1994. Law enforcement claimed that Fat Joe witnessed the killing and chose to cooperate with the investigation. Eventually, this claim was disputed by his attorney Jeffrey Lichtman.

“I don’t know where this [story] comes from that Joe doesn’t wanna help,” Lichtman said. “We’re not looking to hide anything.”

Fat Joe was also suspected of witnessing a 2007 double murder in South Beach, Florida when Jermaine Wufgang Chamberline was accused of killing Lessli Paz and Joey Navarro. According to reports, Fat Joe was allegedly in the rented Cadillac Escalade when the victims were killed.

Earlier this year, Fat Joe caused a firestorm when said that he lied in most of his songs.

“I’ve been rapping professionally for 30 years — I’ve lied in almost 95 percent of my songs. I’m being honest,” Fat Joe said. “I write like I feel that day. I’m just being creative.”

Fat Joe Calls Ozempic ‘The Greatest Invention’ Ever https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-calls-ozempic-the-greatest-invention-ever/ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-calls-ozempic-the-greatest-invention-ever/#respond Mon, 09 Dec 2024 17:52:04 +0000 Fat Joe says Ozempic is “the greatest invention ever.”

During a recent interview with Big Boy TV, Joe explains his health concerns. He says he lost over 100 lbs and when his friend passed away, he began to take his health a little more serious. “That’s when I went on super lose weight mode,” said Joe. “Working out two times a day. Not even eating a cracker. I call it crackhead mode, you know what I’m saying.”

When asked if he thinks his stage name manifested his weight gain or if he would ever change it, he explained, “Fat Joe, we spent so many millions to this day millions of millions of millions of dollars. When Fat Joe comes out at the World Series, they say, ‘Rapper Fat Joe.’ Now if they just said, ‘Rapper Joe,’ you wouldn’t know who the hell that is. We spent all our money pumping up Fat Joe that even if I slim down even more than this, I gotta be Fat Joe, cause we spent all the money on Fat Joe.”

Joe previously opened up about taking the is the prescription medicine, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults. “Ozempic says you may only have two pieces of your favorite stuff,” said Joe. “We just try to eat everything with the least carbs as possible. So we try to stay away from the bread, the pasta, the rice. That’s the smartest way to eat.”

He added, “Like this morning, I ate breakfast, I had this toast. I cut the corner off, ate it and kept it moving. Normally I would’ve ate [sic] the whole thing. But, you know, that’s what we do. We cut carbs and try to be smarter.”

Fat Joe Calls FBA Groups ‘Racist,’ Says They’re ‘Broke N*ggas’ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-calls-fba-groups-racist-says-theyre-broke-nggas/ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-calls-fba-groups-racist-says-theyre-broke-nggas/#respond Sun, 22 Dec 2024 19:36:41 +0000 Fat Joe recently stopped Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast. During one point in the conversation, Fat Joe discussed Foundation Black American (FBA) groups, calling them “radical racists.” Per the organization’s website, “Foundational Black Americans are descendants of enslaved Black people who built the United States from scratch.” In Joe’s opinion, FBA groups exclude Black people across the diaspora, including Carribeans and Afro-Latinos.

“It’s a group of these guys that don’t want to hear Jamaican, don’t want to hear Guyanese, don’t want to hear a Black guy not down with them, right?” Fat Joe tells Hoffa. “So, their job is to criticize anybody who doesn’t look like them. Who ain’t Black American. The FBA, whoever these broke n*ggas is. I’m just keeping it a buck. And their mission is to attack everyone on Twitter.”

Fat Joe Slams Calls Remaining Puerto Rican Trump Supporters’ House N*ggas’

Fat Joe has never been one to hold back when it comes to his opinions. In November, he chastised Pureto Rican supporters of Donald Trump. He was responding to a racist remark from a Trump Rally about Puerto Ricans, where comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called the island of Puerto Rico “garbage.” Hinchcliffe was one of the celebrity entertainers booked at Trump’s rally. According to Fat Joe, the remaining Latino supporters of Trump, especially Puerto Ricans, are “house n*ggas.”

“It breaks my heart,” the “Lean Back” rapper began. “How the hell are they gonna call Puerto Rico, ‘An island of garbage,’ and when I post on my Instagram, ‘These the guys you voting for?’ and I see Puerto Ricans, ‘No, we’re still for Trump 2024, that’s that house n*gga mentality.” He added, “That’s a Latino that wishes he was white. Those [are] the guys in the comments…change their voice up [and] try to sound white…Those guys I been fighting my whole life.”

Fat Joe Sues Ex-Hypeman Over Slander https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-sues-ex-hypeman-over-slander/ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-sues-ex-hypeman-over-slander/#respond Wed, 30 Apr 2025 17:59:08 +0000 Fat Joe has initiated a defamation lawsuit against his former hypeman, Terrance “T.A.” Dixon, alleging a calculated attempt to extort him through false and damaging public accusations.

Filed in New York, the suit contends that Dixon, after failing to secure additional compensation, resorted to disseminating unfounded claims on social media, including a serious allegation that Fat Joe transported a minor across state lines for sexual purposes. These assertions were accompanied by a photo featuring Joe alongside Diddy and DJ Khaled, insinuating broader misconduct.

According to the complaint, Dixon’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, is implicated in orchestrating this alleged smear campaign. Blackburn, known for representing clients in high-profile cases, has faced judicial scrutiny for his litigation tactics.

In a separate matter, U.S. District Judge Denise Cote referred Blackburn to the Southern District of New York’s Grievance Committee, citing a pattern of filing lawsuits aimed more at attracting media attention than seeking justice.

Fat Joe’s legal team, led by attorney Joe Tacopina, argues that Dixon’s claims are not only baseless but also part of a broader scheme to damage Joe’s reputation and coerce a financial settlement. Tacopina emphasized that Joe will not be intimidated by what he describes as fabricated allegations and is committed to exposing the purported extortion attempt.

The lawsuit also details the history between Fat Joe and Dixon, noting that their professional relationship began in 2006 and ended amicably in 2019. It wasn’t until years later, according to the suit, that Dixon began demanding additional compensation, claiming uncredited contributions as a “ghostwriter” and escalating to public defamation when those demands were not met.

As the case unfolds, it highlights the complexities of legal disputes in the entertainment industry, where personal relationships and public personas often intersect, leading to contentious and highly publicized legal battles.

Fat Joe Came Out Of Retirement To Win A Grammy https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-came-out-of-retirement-to-win-a-grammy/ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-came-out-of-retirement-to-win-a-grammy/#respond Wed, 08 Jan 2025 02:35:37 +0000 Fat Joe was enjoying his retirement from the rap game until he was inspired to return to his first love. He wants to win a Grammy.

In an interview with  Billboard on Tuesday, (Jan. 7), Fat Joe shared that Killer Mike’s three Grammy wins inspired him to begin making music again.

“He’s the guy who inspired,” he told the publication, of Mike’s impact. “I retired. Then, I had an infamous phone call with Eminem, where he was trying to talk me into not retiring. ‘Joe, we need you. You’re one of us.’ I was super done, but I got back outside because of Killer Mike. The man won that Grammy.”

“When I saw [Killer Mike win], I called [Dr.] Dre, I was like, ‘Yo. It’s possible,” he continued. “Let’s get back in the kitchen and cook.’ So, he inspired me to come out of retirement.”

Although he’s dropped other collaborative projects over the years, Fat Joe released The World Changed on Me in December. The LP is his first solo album in 15 years.

“Everyone keeps saying that. I have Plata o Plomo that’s with Remy and then the Dre album. I feel like I’ve been consistently working, but I guess this is my first solo in 15 years. That’s crazy,” Fat Joe recalled. “Man, it’s incredible, though. This album is consistent. This album is incredible.”

Although he evolved as an artist, Joe is committed to being himself on the project.

“My daughter’s 18 and she heard the album, and she was like, ‘Yo, dad, what you doin’?” he said. “You talkin’ crazy.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t wanna buy an Ice Cube album and he’s talkin’ nice. I want to hear him say f*ck police.'”

“And that’s what I love about this album. I kept it really consistent with all my music in the past,” Fat Joe added. “Just 2024, different flow patterns…I just wanted to show my growth.”

Fat Joe Details How He Lost 250 Pounds https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-details-how-he-lost-250-pounds/ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-details-how-he-lost-250-pounds/#respond Wed, 09 Apr 2025 22:32:20 +0000 Fat Joe is sharing his story of how he lost 250 lbs over the last 10 years.

During an appearance on the 3rd Hour Today on Wednesday (April 9), the Terror Squad rapper’s weight loss was not lost on co-host Craig Melvin who said he isn’t “fat” anymore, and called him “Slim Jim.”

“No, I’m Al Roker’s twin. That’s who I am. Not-so-fat Joe,” Joe replied. “We tryna stay alive, brother.”

While he is currently in the best shape of his life, Joe admitted that sometimes he feels like the same guy.

“Healthwise, yes, [it’s been transformative],” Joe explained. “I still feel like Fat Joe. Do you feel like Fat Al?”

“Yeah, I still make those jokes, and people say, ‘You can’t make those jokes,” Al Roker added.

“They say you can’t make those jokes? The world changed on us. You gotta watch what jokes you say these days,” Joe said.

Back in October 2021, Fat Joe shared how Ozempic was a key factor in the his weight loss. At his heaviest, the “Lean Back” rapper weight 470lbs.

“We just try to eat everything with the least carbs as possible…so we try to stay away from the bread, the pasta, the rice. That’s the smartest way to eat,” Joe told Us Weekly.

He also credited Ozempic with taking away his late-night cravings

“Ozempic says you may only have two pieces of your favorite stuff,” he joked.

“This morning I ate breakfast, I had this toast. I cut the corner off, ate it, and kept it moving,” he added. “Normally I would’ve ate the whole thing. But you know, that’s what we do. We cut carbs and try to be smarter.”

In an interview with Men’s Health, the death of Big Pun in 2000 at the age of 28 was his first wake-up call.

“I went to his funeral and I felt like Ebenezer Scrooge,” Joe said. “And I’m looking at his little daughter. She was the same age as my daughter. I said, ‘You gotta lose weight; otherwise you outta here.”

Jadakiss & Fat Joe Announces “Joe & Jada” Podcast https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-fat-joe-announces-joe-jada-podcast/ https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-fat-joe-announces-joe-jada-podcast/#respond Tue, 06 May 2025 12:30:00 +0000 Jadakiss and Fat Joe are joining forces for a new venture that blends their decades of experience with candid, unfiltered conversation.

Their upcoming podcast, Joe & Jada, will explore music, sports, and culture with the sharp wit and perspective that has made both men enduring voices in hip-hop. The show premieres this week and will release new episodes twice weekly. It’s a joint production by Roc Nation and The Volume.

Fat Joe describes the podcast as something more than just talk. He promises a bold format filled with raw analysis, unexpected interviews, and behind-the-scenes stories that rarely reach the public.

“We’re bringing something real,” he said. “No filters, no gimmicks—just me and Kiss talking about the things we care about. This isn’t your typical podcast.”

Jadakiss echoed that sentiment, highlighting their long-standing friendship as the show’s foundation. “Joe and I go way back. We’ve been having these conversations privately for years. Now the world gets to hear it.”

He sees the podcast as an opportunity to show a side of himself that fans rarely see. “This is something different. A space to speak freely and spark real conversations.”

Both artists are no strangers to media. Fat Joe’s Instagram Live sessions during the pandemic evolved into the Starz series Fat Joe Talks, which brought hip-hop figures into raw, thoughtful conversations.

Jadakiss has quietly built a niche following with 2 Jews & 2 Black Dudes Review the Movies, his podcast with The LOX and ItsTheReal, where cultural commentary meets absurdist film reviews. The show gained momentum recently with new weekly episodes.

Joe & Jada is also likely to revisit a topic both hosts care deeply about—hip-hop’s current direction. In January, Fat Joe expressed unease about where some new rap is headed.

“I’m riding in traffic, hearing this stuff,” he said. “It felt like devil music. I don’t even know what’s going on. I support the youth, always will. But we had Lauryn Hill, Biz Markie, Rakim, Nas. Now everything sounds the same.”

Jadakiss weighed in during a February interview, using Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning hit as a warning. “You see a record like ‘Not Like Us’ blow up, and suddenly everyone’s chasing that sound. That’s when the culture gets watered down. Some artists can do both—rap and sing. Some can’t. The game needs balance. Rap is for rapping.”

As Joe & Jada prepares to launch, the podcast promises to cut through the noise with honesty, history, and humor—offering fans of hip-hop and beyond a deeper look at two voices who helped shape it.

Fat Joe Claims He Was Set Up For Murder By Police

During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, Fat Joe made a startling allegation against NYPD. He claims the cops tried to frame him for several murders throughout the 1990s. Although he didn’t go into detail about the events, he did feel that a target had been placed on his back. “I had the cops on me. The cops tried to frame me, like, three times for murder. Fat Joe & Food For The Poor Aid Haiti Crisis https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-food-for-the-poor-aid-haiti-crisis/ Fri, 03 May 2024 17:12:05 +0000 Grammy-nominated artist and humanitarian Fat Joe has launched a heartfelt endeavor to assist families impacted by Haiti’s recent humanitarian turmoil. Teaming up with Food For The Poor, Fat Joe has unveiled a relief fund aimed at providing aid and essential resources to those enduring hardship in Haiti. This initiative, unveiled during Haitian Heritage Month in May, is a response to the surge of violence that gripped Haiti in early March. Rampant violence by armed gangs, including the burning of police stations, prison raids, and facilitating jailbreaks, has resulted in mass displacement and a grave humanitarian crisis.

Nearly half of Haiti’s population now grapples with severe food and water shortages, coupled with restricted access to basic hygiene necessities. In light of these dire circumstances, Fat Joe and Food For The Poor have launched the “Fat Joe & Friends Relief For Haiti” campaign, urging Joe’s celebrity connections and supporters to contribute in three key ways.

  1. Anyone in Miami can purchase those essential items and drop them off at Food For The Poor’s South Florida Distribution (6401 Lyons Rd. Coconut Creek, Florida 33073) on May 4 between 8 am ET to 5 pm ET.
  2. Purchase critical items on the Amazon list HERE that will be sent directly to Food For The Poor
  3. Donate directly to the relief fund HERE

Fat Joe stated, “My heart goes out to all the Haitians that are suffering because of this humanitarian crisis. Many of my close friends are Haitian, so we’ve been watching this tragedy unfold and exploring the most efficient and effective ways to provide meaningful support.” All donations, whether in the form of relief items purchased directly or financial contributions, will be channeled through Food For The Poor to ensure they reach the families in need.

The crisis in Haiti, exacerbated by recent events and persistent challenges, requires immediate attention and unified efforts. Since early March, over 53,000 people have fled Haiti’s capital to escape escalating gang violence, with thousands losing their lives and millions facing severe food insecurity. Fat Joe’s initiative aims to alleviate the plight of the Haitian people by addressing urgent needs and fostering hope for a better tomorrow.

By leveraging his influence and partnering with Food For The Poor, Fat Joe highlights the potency of collective action and compassion during crises. In the midst of Haiti’s multiple challenges, including natural disasters, civil unrest, and economic struggles, the “Fat Joe & Friends Relief For Haiti” campaign emerges as a symbol of hope and solidarity, embodying the resilience of community in times of adversity. Through this collaboration, Fat Joe and Food For The Poor exemplify the transformative impact of empathy and collective engagement, inspiring others to join in supporting the Haitian people during this critical juncture.

He was 89

On Wednesday (February 12), Fat Joe took to social media to confirm his father’s death and to pay tribute to his hero.

Sad to announce the passing of my Father ‘ERNESTO AKA CUBA,’” he shared on Instagram. “papi te quero para siempre. This has been tough, I’m not looking for sympathy, just Honoring my Dad. He’s a Legend in my eyes. To my Mom, Wife, Brothers, and Sisters i love you and we’ll always be united. 9/15/1935 – 2/12/2025.”

Fat Joe also shared several photos of his father on Instagram including his wife, Lorena Cartagena along with their children. Whatever platform he was on, the Bronx rapper would always speak of how he influenced him to be a good dad.

“I don’t know how to be a fake father,” Fat Joe said on an episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast. “I got to take care of my kids regardless and do everything I can for them. I don’t know how to give up on my kids. I don’t know how to not love on my kids. That’s impossible.”

Fat Joe is a father to three children: Joey, Ryan, and Azariah. During the same episode, he shared how he learned that Joey was a special needs child shortly after his birth.

“When he’s born the doctor tells us, ‘Hey, I have bad news to tell you,’” the rapper continued. “He shows us his hands, ‘he has Down syndrome, he’s gonna be a big challenge.’ I was there with my mother, my father, and his mother. His mother was like, ‘Yo, I can’t do this. I’ma have to give him up for adoption.”

“My mother was like, ‘You crazy, b*tch? You not giving up my f*ckin’…’ And so we raised him. And he’s had his challenges. You see, I don’t know if all kids who are autistic or on the spectrum, this guy’s happy. I swear to God. He’s always happy. He’s never sad. If you’re stuck in a place, he’s stuck in happiness.”

The “What’s Luv” rapper credited his parents for teaching him the value of family.

We at HOT97 extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ernesto Delgado.
