Ernesto Delgado, the father of Fat Joe, has passed away. He was 89

On Wednesday (February 12), Fat Joe took to social media to confirm his father’s death and to pay tribute to his hero.

Sad to announce the passing of my Father ‘ERNESTO AKA CUBA,’” he shared on Instagram. “papi te quero para siempre. This has been tough, I’m not looking for sympathy, just Honoring my Dad. He’s a Legend in my eyes. To my Mom, Wife, Brothers, and Sisters i love you and we’ll always be united. 9/15/1935 – 2/12/2025.”

Fat Joe also shared several photos of his father on Instagram including his wife, Lorena Cartagena along with their children. Whatever platform he was on, the Bronx rapper would always speak of how he influenced him to be a good dad.

“I don’t know how to be a fake father,” Fat Joe said on an episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast. “I got to take care of my kids regardless and do everything I can for them. I don’t know how to give up on my kids. I don’t know how to not love on my kids. That’s impossible.”

Fat Joe is a father to three children: Joey, Ryan, and Azariah. During the same episode, he shared how he learned that Joey was a special needs child shortly after his birth.

“When he’s born the doctor tells us, ‘Hey, I have bad news to tell you,’” the rapper continued. “He shows us his hands, ‘he has Down syndrome, he’s gonna be a big challenge.’ I was there with my mother, my father, and his mother. His mother was like, ‘Yo, I can’t do this. I’ma have to give him up for adoption.”

“My mother was like, ‘You crazy, b*tch? You not giving up my f*ckin’…’ And so we raised him. And he’s had his challenges. You see, I don’t know if all kids who are autistic or on the spectrum, this guy’s happy. I swear to God. He’s always happy. He’s never sad. If you’re stuck in a place, he’s stuck in happiness.”

The “What’s Luv” rapper credited his parents for teaching him the value of family.

We at HOT97 extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ernesto Delgado.
