The Lox‘s standout once revealed he “made a lot of money” dissing 50 Cent during their infamous rap feud. Now, the two former rivals are poised to turn profits together, teaming up for an exciting venture centered on the Yonkers rapper’s coffee brand, Kiss Café.

Launched in 2022 by Jadakiss, his father Bob Phillips, and his son Jaewon Phillips, Kiss Café is rooted in a family legacy. Bob Phillips has worked in the coffee industry since 1977, bringing decades of expertise to the brand. Meanwhile, 50 Cent, a major investor in Shreveport, Louisiana, has been transforming the city with significant real estate acquisitions, including numerous downtown properties. As part of his revitalization plans, 50 Cent is calling on Jadakiss to open the first brick-and-mortar Kiss Café in the city.

On Monday (December 2), 50 Cent took to Instagram to share his vision, tagging Jadakiss and declaring, “It’s a go @jadakiss. SHREVEPORT is ready let’s get it.” Jadakiss responded enthusiastically, writing, “I’m waiting on YOU.”

This partnership aligns with 50 Cent’s ambitious efforts in Shreveport. He has poured millions into the city as part of a three-phase revitalization strategy, which began with purchasing and upgrading nearly two dozen properties downtown. Adding a Kiss Café to the mix could further cement his impact on the region while fulfilling a long-held dream for Jadakiss’ family.

Bob Phillips expressed his hope for a physical Kiss Café location during an appearance on Drink Champs with his son. Reflecting on the brand’s future, he shared, “One day, we’d like to franchise and partner up to have brick-and-mortar Kiss Cafés. That’s the ultimate goal.” While Phillips admitted he wasn’t sure he’d live to see it happen, the collaboration with 50 Cent could make that dream a reality.

The union of Jadakiss’ family passion for coffee and 50 Cent’s entrepreneurial vision could mark a new chapter for both the brand and the city of Shreveport. From rap battles to business ventures, these two icons are proving that success tastes even sweeter when it’s brewed together.

Jadakiss Embraces Kendrick Lamar After Half-Time Controversy https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-embraces-kendrick-lamar-after-half-time-controversy/ https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-embraces-kendrick-lamar-after-half-time-controversy/#respond Sat, 21 Sep 2024 19:49:51 +0000 Jadakiss is known for giving credit where it’s due. He recently went out of his way to show love to one rapper who’s faced some major controversy: Kendrick Lamar. Not too long ago, Kendrick was named as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime show. Social media was ablaze, following the announcement. Many, did not agree with the choice to select Lamar. However, in Jadakiss’ opinion, the movement was a win for hip-hop.

“A win for hip-hop is a win for hip-hop!!!” he began, “I remember when the Super Bowl halftime show was when you fixed a plate,” he wrote in an Instagram Story. In 2019, Jay-Z (along with Roc Nation), partnered with the NFL. The new initiative addressed social justice issues and worked to revamp the Halftime performance segment.

Jadakiss’ New Buisness Venture: Kiss Café

Last October Jadakiss embarked on a new venture, releasing his coffee brand, Kiss Café. Not too long after, Jadakiss shared the announcement on Instagram. “@kisscafecoffee’s first official blend BEIJO is now available only at kisscafecoffee.com. Over 40 years in, 3 generations deep, grounded in tradition, I am joined by my father and son @reallyjaewon, to officially launch our Phillips family coffee company. Follow us on IG @kisscafecoffee and get your fix today #ForTheLoveOfCoffee,” he wrote in the post’s caption.

In other news, Jadakiss was joined by his Lox brethren for a special performance at NPR’s tiny desk. The Yonkers trio of Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch burst onto hip-hop in 1994 and craved a legacy in the genre that includes awards, victories, and more. The Tiny Desk set included the most loyal group’s signature tracks, such as “Good Times,” “Money, Power, Respect,” and “We Gonna Make It.” They also paid homage to the late DMX during the iconic performance.

Jadakiss Requests More Originality In Rap: “Don’t 53 More ‘They Not Like Us'” https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-requests-more-originality-in-rap-dont-53-more-they-not-like-us/ https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-requests-more-originality-in-rap-dont-53-more-they-not-like-us/#respond Mon, 24 Feb 2025 11:00:00 +0000 Jadakiss wants artists to stop chasing past success by copying what’s already been done. Instead, he urges them to focus on originality.

In a new episode of Carmelo Anthony’s 7PM in Brooklyn, released Thursday (February 20), Kiss spoke about the state of hip-hop. He called the industry “diluted” and pointed to Kendrick Lamar’s recent success as an example of how artists should carve their own lane.

“It’s all about balance. Some dudes can rap and sing. Some should just rap,” he said. “Some should do something else. But rap is for rapping. If you start doing everything, you’re moving away from the elements and hurting the culture. We don’t need 53 more Not Like Us tracks.”

He warned against chasing trends just because they work for someone else. “That got him five Grammys and a Super Bowl moment, but when you create, don’t try to make that,” he said. “Too many people hit up the producer, trying to get the same beat. It never works.”

Meanwhile, Jadakiss and 50 Cent may be teaming up on a physical location for Kiss’ coffee brand.

In a December 2 Instagram post, 50 shared the logo for Kiss Café, which Jadakiss launched in 2022 with his father and son. “It’s a go @jadakiss. Shreveport is ready, let’s get it,” 50 wrote, referencing the Louisiana city where he recently opened G-Unit Film & TV Studios.

Jada’s response suggested plans weren’t locked in yet. “@50cent I’m waiting on YOU,” he commented.

For now, Kiss Café coffee and merch are available online and in select stores. However, Jada’s father, Bob Phillips, has expressed interest in opening a brick-and-mortar shop.

50 Cent has been buying land and property in Shreveport as he expands G-Unit Film & TV. A coffee shop from Jadakiss—once a rival, now a respected peer—would be a fitting addition.

Reflecting on past industry beefs, 50 admitted he wasted too much time feuding with Fat Joe and Cam’ron. “It wasn’t real heat, just competition,” he said. “Me and Jadakiss cleared it up easier, but looking back, we lost time.”

Jadakiss Believes JAY-Z Has Surpassed The Notorious B.I.G. https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-believes-jay-z-has-surpassed-the-notorious-b-i-g/ https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-believes-jay-z-has-surpassed-the-notorious-b-i-g/#respond Sat, 30 Nov 2024 16:40:14 +0000 Jadakiss is one of the most acclaimed MCs of his generation so his opinion holds a lot of weight. The self-proclaimed “Best Five Dead or Alive” rapper has OG status in the game. Recently, he claimed that JAY-Z has surpassed The Notorious B.I.G as a lyricist.

During an interview on Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson’s “Scoop B Radio”, the “We Gone Make It” rapper explained why Hov has passed Biggie.

“Yeah, that’s not like a crazy answer. He has more years on Earth,” Jadakiss said.”So he’s able to; you know, he surpassed him.”

“He used that energy he got from his brother to help him surpass him,” Jadakiss continued.

If anyone has the authority to make this kind of claim it’s Jadakiss. He and his group The LOX ( Styles P. and Sheek Louch) signed with Bad Boy Records. They eventually recorded several tracks with Biggie including “Last Dayz” from the Life After Death album.

After Big died in 1997, The LOX released the tribute song, “We’ll Always Love Big Poppa.”

While that may be the sentiments of Jadakis, Styles P doesn’t see it that way.

The “Gangster and a Gentleman” said that because of Big’s untimely death, the argument is an unfair one.

“No, I don’t,” Styles told Scoop B Radio.

“I don’t say anyone surpassed Biggie because Big didn’t have a fair shot to be around as long as he should’ve and I believe he set the tone,” Styles argued. “I believe in hip-hop; we make too many comparisons, especially with people who are not around. I don’t think Jay-Z makes it to where he’s at; The L.O.X. makes it to where we’re at…a bunch of us. If it wasn’t for Big and ‘Pac setting a certain tone, standard, and bar in the rap game for you to keep up to the bar.”

Jadakiss & Fat Joe Announces “Joe & Jada” Podcast https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-fat-joe-announces-joe-jada-podcast/ https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-fat-joe-announces-joe-jada-podcast/#respond Tue, 06 May 2025 12:30:00 +0000 Jadakiss and Fat Joe are joining forces for a new venture that blends their decades of experience with candid, unfiltered conversation.

Their upcoming podcast, Joe & Jada, will explore music, sports, and culture with the sharp wit and perspective that has made both men enduring voices in hip-hop. The show premieres this week and will release new episodes twice weekly. It’s a joint production by Roc Nation and The Volume.

Fat Joe describes the podcast as something more than just talk. He promises a bold format filled with raw analysis, unexpected interviews, and behind-the-scenes stories that rarely reach the public.

“We’re bringing something real,” he said. “No filters, no gimmicks—just me and Kiss talking about the things we care about. This isn’t your typical podcast.”

Jadakiss echoed that sentiment, highlighting their long-standing friendship as the show’s foundation. “Joe and I go way back. We’ve been having these conversations privately for years. Now the world gets to hear it.”

He sees the podcast as an opportunity to show a side of himself that fans rarely see. “This is something different. A space to speak freely and spark real conversations.”

Both artists are no strangers to media. Fat Joe’s Instagram Live sessions during the pandemic evolved into the Starz series Fat Joe Talks, which brought hip-hop figures into raw, thoughtful conversations.

Jadakiss has quietly built a niche following with 2 Jews & 2 Black Dudes Review the Movies, his podcast with The LOX and ItsTheReal, where cultural commentary meets absurdist film reviews. The show gained momentum recently with new weekly episodes.

Joe & Jada is also likely to revisit a topic both hosts care deeply about—hip-hop’s current direction. In January, Fat Joe expressed unease about where some new rap is headed.

“I’m riding in traffic, hearing this stuff,” he said. “It felt like devil music. I don’t even know what’s going on. I support the youth, always will. But we had Lauryn Hill, Biz Markie, Rakim, Nas. Now everything sounds the same.”

Jadakiss weighed in during a February interview, using Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning hit as a warning. “You see a record like ‘Not Like Us’ blow up, and suddenly everyone’s chasing that sound. That’s when the culture gets watered down. Some artists can do both—rap and sing. Some can’t. The game needs balance. Rap is for rapping.”

As Joe & Jada prepares to launch, the podcast promises to cut through the noise with honesty, history, and humor—offering fans of hip-hop and beyond a deeper look at two voices who helped shape it.

Nas and Jadakiss’ Viral Karaoke Moment Captivates Fans https://www.hot97.com/news/nas-and-jadakiss-viral-karaoke-moment-captivates-fans/ https://www.hot97.com/news/nas-and-jadakiss-viral-karaoke-moment-captivates-fans/#respond Thu, 13 Feb 2025 17:18:18 +0000 Nas and Jadakiss may dominate the rap scene, but that doesn’t stop them from having a blast with a little karaoke fun—and the internet can’t get enough. Just last month, the two icons had a fun-filled evening, thanks to fan platform Fanmire, where they let loose and performed some of their favorite jams in a private karaoke room. This week, footage from their impromptu performance exploded online.

Jadakiss and Nas Reflect on Legendary Voices and Top Contender Status

The duo has a lot of admiration for one another. Nas even crowned Jadakiss as one of his top five favorite rappers in a 2022 interview. “It took me a while, that’s like education in music just to know the different [sonic] of people’s voices,” Jada stated. “Just unique voices for me as I started learning about it. I think Guru, rest in peace. [Method Man], you know when the [Wu-Tang Clan] came Meth’s voice was deep and raspy and just he has an ill voice.” He added, “Big, with the nasal. Sounds like he’s having a hard time breathing but that’s making his cadence extra crazy. Tone-Loc, Tone-Loc’s voice was ill. Nas, with the nasal. That’s voices! So don’t get mad at me.”

In 2015, Jada reflected on his place in the rap world with the release of his fourth studio album, Top 5 Dead Or Alive. The project served as his declaration of being a Top 5 contender—an assertion that resonates with many to this day. While The Cutting Room series was ongoing, he voiced, “For one, just for your name to be in the discussion is a pleasure.” “Because it’s a million rappers, a billion. And more than 98.2 percent of them would never be in the discussion.” Jada stated further, “And then another thing that makes you and puts me where I’m at is I can stay here and endure. I love the discussion. You gotta be able to take it and then transform that into something.”

Fat Joe Says No Other California Artist Has Dominated Like Kendrick Lamar https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-says-no-other-california-artist-has-dominated-like-kendrick-lamar/ https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joe-says-no-other-california-artist-has-dominated-like-kendrick-lamar/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 01:46:46 +0000 Fat Joe believes that no other West Coast rapper dominated the game like Kendrick Lamar has over the past year.

On the premiere episode of Joe and Jada, his new podcast series that he co-hosts with fellow rap legend Jadakiss, Joe shared his thoughts on Kendrick’s unprecedented run of success.

Jada started the conversation by stating he was amazed that it’s been a year since Kendrick took on Drake.

“One year since the Kendrick and Drake discrepancy. What they like to call it ‘beef’ in the media world,” Jada replied. “Thank God nothing really happened to anybody, physically. Personally, I thought it was about four or five months ago. I can’t believe it’s already been a year.”

“How is it a year?” Joe said. “But what I can tell you is, boy, that Kendrick Lamar gets some spins on LA radio…”

Jadakiss noted that every L.A. artist gets spins on the local radio, but Joe argued that Kendrick’s run was the greatest that he’s ever seen.

“I was there last week. I’ve never seen nothing like that: Every single song, ‘Turn his TV off…’ What?” he continued. “It’s a fact. Kendrick Lamar gets played nine out of every 10 songs in L.A. right now. Not even Snoop Dogg, not even Tupac Shakur — nobody from L.A. has dominated the paint like this guy… If you’re from L.A., you probably think there’s only one guy on Earth, Kendrick Lamar. I’m just keeping it a buck with you,” Joe said.

While Jadakiss acknowledged that K-Dot and “a helluva career,” he said that today’s rap beefs were “getting out of hand.”

“It’s always good as long as it stays on wax,” Jada said. “Now, when it first started, somebody say something about you, you gotta go to the studio, you gotta immediately work on getting one back at there… Now, as the technology evolved, it turns into movie skits, animations, retrieving fake information… It got a little wacky for me. I like it to be beats and rhymes, and keep it like that. Once it got out of my pay grade, it’s a little bit of disinterest to me… I just wanna see rhymes and song and hip-hop shit.”

Jadakiss Wants The NBA To Stop Snubbing Him For Celebrity All-Star Game https://www.hot97.com/news/jadakiss-wants-the-nba-to-stop-snubbing-him-for-celebrity-all-star-game/ Mon, 04 Mar 2024 19:05:00 +0000 Jadakiss said that the NBA needs to stop snubbing him for the celebrity All-Star game.

“I exhausted my resources,” the LOX rapper said during a recent appearance on PJ Tucker’s “Sneaker Lounge” show. “I called everybody I know. I emailed, I text, I been working out, I been putting clips on the ‘Gram. I been going my hardest, and I still got snubbed. I gotta stop getting snubbed for the celebrity All-Star game.”

“I been a taxpaying, clean citizen, a great father, I’m drinking water, I’m voting, I bought the church new Bibles. I did everything and they still snubbed me!” he continued. “Don’t wait ‘til my moneymakers blow out and then call me and I’m looking horrible out there,” he said, patting his knees. “I gotta play while I still got some fluidity in my knees.”

Jadakiss added, “Next year, I pray to get in.” Check out the full conversation below.

50 Cent Says He Wasted Too Much Time Beefing With Fat Joe, Jadakiss, & Cam’ron https://www.hot97.com/news/50-cent-says-he-wasted-too-much-time-beefing-with-fat-joe-jadakiss-camron/ Thu, 01 Aug 2024 10:30:00 +0000 50 Cent’s past beefs with Jadakiss, Fat Joe, and Cam’ron are several of the biggest moments in New York Hip-Hop history.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the entertainment mogul reflects on his rivalries and reveals that they were a waste of time. “We wasted too much time arguing,” 50 Cent admitted to journalist Mesfin Fekadu. “There’s other guys like Jadakiss—we cleared it up easier. But with Joe and Cam, it was just competitive nature. We didn’t have real heat for each other.”

50 Cent, now 49, explained that his feud with Fat Joe, 53, persisted because they were so alike. “When we’re at odds, we are at odds, and we did that for a long time,” he said. “Because of his loyalty to Irv Gotti and Ja Rule, Joe wasn’t happy with things that were making me happy. It was easy for me to say, ‘F— you,’ because we weren’t on the same page.”

While their beef originated over Fat Joe making music with 50’s nemesis Ja Rule, 50 emphasized that a specific incident didn’t spark their discord. “Now he’s like my friend, and I don’t care that he has relationships with people I don’t,” said 50. “He’s always had those relationships.”

Fat Joe addressed his previous issues with 50 Cent in a recent interview with Jay Shetty. Comparing his beef to the recent J. Cole/Kendrick Lamar/Drake rap battle, he revealed how deep his beef with 50 Cent went.

“I had one of the biggest, most dangerous beefs with 50 Cent, and I was sitting next to him at the game yesterday, having the best time in the world,” said Joe at 1:11:03 on the Jay Shetty Podcast. “We’re brothers. When you’re called out in Hip Hop, you gotta respond. I’m a big fan of J. Cole, but it started from that.”

He continued: “He probably saw that it could get real messy and real ugly and so he said, ‘Yo, you know this ain’t me I don’t want no parts of it. But he definitely got a stripe off … They took a stripe off that because in Hip Hop, when they call you out, you come out.”

Fat Joe is currently part of a Las Vegas residency with Ja Rule and DJ Cassidy, known as the Pass The Mic Live!

The Lox Run Through The Classics For Tiny Desk https://www.hot97.com/news/the-lox-run-through-the-classics-for-tiny-desk/ Fri, 02 Aug 2024 13:15:16 +0000 The Lox takes NPR through the classics in a memorable Tiny Desk performance.

The Yonkers trio of Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch burst onto hip-hop in 1994 and craved a legacy in the genre that includes awards, victories, and more. The Tiny Desk set includes the most loyal group’s signature tracks, such as “Good Times,” “Money, Power, Respect,” and “We Gonna Make It.” They remember the late DMX during the performance.

In the synopsis, NPR honors the trio’s unforgettable contribution to New York Hip-Hop. It reads:

“Experience with a live band is a prerequisite for most artists who want to play the Tiny Desk. The space isn’t kind to groups who aren’t locked in with each other and it will fully expose a lack of preparation. In the case of The LOX, chemistry has allowed the group to prevail in any environment. It’s the primary element of the trio’s longevity, so we all took a chance to build this performance from scratch. It took the audience a second to figure out what was happening, but the “woos” in tandem with the music affirmed everything. After 30 years in the game, we experienced The LOX, fresh and new again.

The trio of Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch might not spring to mind when it comes to rappers who work with live bands. Established in Yonkers, N.Y., in the 1990s, the group specializes in gritty street anthems, usually best presented with two turntables and a microphone. The LOX utilized the typical tools of the trade three years ago to dominate The Diplomats and reinvigorate the rappers’ careers in their Verzuz battle. The band assembled here consists of Tiny Desk alumnus Carrtoons and Kiefer, Daru Jones on drums and vocalist Le’Asha. The arrangements added a level of sophistication never heard before from The LOX, and for the grand finale, they brought a string section — or “more band,” as Styles put it.”

The performance supports The Lox’s upcoming 30th anniversary tour that kicks off next month.
