A big reason? Dot’s now-iconic adlib—”MUSTAAAARD!”—right before the beat goes crazy. The song shot up to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and, even nine weeks later, it’s still holding strong in the top 15. While fans have been vibing to the track, many had another idea in mind—a partnership between Mustard and Heinz.

Fans had been hoping for a collaboration between Heinz and Mustard ever since “tv off” took off, with many predicting a Super Bowl ad was the perfect opportunity. Their instincts were right—Heinz has officially embraced the moment, turning the viral hype into a real partnership.

Heinz just dropped an ad that plays right into the viral moment—and it’s brilliant. It starts off slow, with Etta James’ timeless hit “At Last” playing while someone tilts a ketchup bottle. But five seconds in, the music rewinds just in time for Lamar’s “MUSTAAAARD!” shout. The screen then reads, “Two mustard legends together at last,” followed by: “Wanna taste the remix? Learn more at mustardxmustard.com.”

Reports confirm Heinz and Mustard are teaming up to release a new mustard-based condiment later this year—their first in about a decade. There’s no set launch date, but considering mustard is a summer BBQ staple, it could hit shelves in time for grilling season. The ad is also expected to run during the Super Bowl on February 9th.

This is just another win for Mustard, fresh off Lamar’s multiple GRAMMY wins last night—thanks in part to his production on “Not Like Us.”

Kendrick Lamar Shares How He Felt Making “hey now” With Mustard https://www.hot97.com/news/kendrick-lamar-shares-how-he-felt-making-hey-now-with-mustard/ https://www.hot97.com/news/kendrick-lamar-shares-how-he-felt-making-hey-now-with-mustard/#respond Tue, 28 Jan 2025 17:55:46 +0000 Kendrick Lamar channeled his inner Goku when he first heard Mustard’s beat for “Hey Now,” one of the standout tracks from his surprise sixth studio album, GNX. On Monday (January 27), the West Coast producer reflected on Lamar’s energetic response to the beat during an interview with the Grammy Awards.

https://twitter.com/CultureCrave/status/1884125989363671215

“He played me a snippet before it dropped,” Mustard revealed, recalling how Lamar shared the track during the “Not Like Us” video shoot. “I asked him, ‘Man, what made you do that?’ And he told me, ‘When I heard the beat, I just felt like Goku or something.’” For those unfamiliar, Goku is the central hero of the legendary Dragon Ball manga series.

Mustard admitted he was caught off guard by the comparison. “I was like, ‘What?’ And Kendrick explained, ‘Yeah, when I hear certain stuff in your beats, it brings out something different in me. So I just went with what I felt.’ I thought, ‘Wow, that’s wild.’”

Both Mustard and Lamar are primed for success at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. “Not Like Us” has racked up nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song. Mustard is also vying for Producer of the Year (Non-Classical). Other highlights from GNX include the SZA-assisted “Luther,” the hard-hitting “Squabble Up,” and “TV Off,” a track widely regarded as one of Lamar’s finest moments on the album. The latter features a memorable shoutout to Mustard, an intense outro by Lefty Gunplay, and a production style that seamlessly balances chaos and creativity.

During the interview, Mustard shared an intriguing detail about “TV Off.” The track’s dramatic beat switch, which divides the song into two distinct sections, was Kendrick’s brainchild. “The first half and the second half are two completely different beats that he connected,” Mustard explained. “I didn’t send it to him like that. Out of five beats I sent, he picked two and made it work.”

With GNX, Kendrick Lamar continues to prove why he’s one of hip-hop’s most innovative artists. His collaboration with Mustard is yet another example of how he pushes boundaries, crafting music that resonates both emotionally and sonically. As fans eagerly await the Grammy results, it’s clear that Lamar and Mustard’s creative synergy has delivered another unforgettable chapter in their respective legacies.

DJ Mustard Refers To Drake As ‘Malcolm X Of White People’ https://www.hot97.com/news/dj-mustard-refers-to-drake-as-malcolm-x-of-white-people/ Sat, 03 Aug 2024 21:34:53 +0000 DJ Mustard believes that Drake is behind the lackluster sales of his Faith Of A Mustard Seed album. The producer claims the Toronto rapper, DJ Akademiks, and Gordo SZN sabotaged his album rollout. On Friday (Aug. 2), he hopped on X to share his frustration. “Drake is the Malcolm x of white people [laughing emoji] and @Akademiks make sure you post @GordoSZN
first week since drake thought he did a thing with making him drop on the same day as me [laughing emoji].”

In another post, Mustard claimed that “Album sales are a form of white supremacy.” While no evidence has been presented linking Drake, Akademiks, or Gordo, it’s clear Mustard thinks something happened.

Response To DJ mUSTARD’S ‘Faith Of A Mustard Seed’

Released on July 26, Faith Of A Mustard Seed, sold only 18,000 units in its first week. The project served as the hitmaker’s fourth studio album. Guest appearances ranged from Kirk Franklin and Lil Yachty to 42 Dugg, and Vince Staples. Faith of a Mustard Seed was the follow-up to the 2019 album, Perfect Ten. Despite his recent comments, in a recent Billboard interview, Mustard claimed that Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” served as the perfect album rollout.

“I keep saying it and I can’t say it enough — it’s gotta be God,” Mustard tells the outlet. “What am I gonna do to get myself back hot? … How are we gonna spark to where people are like, ‘I wanna hear Mustard again.’ … Then the song came out. There’s my rollout.” Prior to their collaboration, Mustard revealed he’d waited a long time to work with Lamar. “I’ve been literally trying to get a song with him for years… Before I even made that beat, I got to a point where I was like, ‘I’m gonna send five beats a day.’ I maybe sent him five beats a day for maybe three months.” That said looking at his first week’s sales, it doesn’t seem that it worked out too well for him.

Mustard Shares Screenshots of Boi1da Dissing West Coast Rap https://www.hot97.com/news/mustard-shares-screenshots-of-boi1da-dissing-west-coast-rap/ https://www.hot97.com/news/mustard-shares-screenshots-of-boi1da-dissing-west-coast-rap/#respond Tue, 10 Dec 2024 10:30:00 +0000 Oh, yeah, the beef ain’t over for Mustard. While Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef continues, their respective producers trash-talking each other on social media.

Mustard exposes longtime Drake producer Boi-1da for saying unflattering things about West Coast Hip-Hop. The drama unfolded Monday when Mustard shared screenshots of Boi-1da’s Instagram messages, where the Toronto producer bluntly declared, “West Coast rap is ass.” The comment struck a nerve, with Mustard comparing it to dismissive nonsense, calling out the insult as utterly baseless.

Boi-1da doubled down on his critique, dismissing Mustard’s defense that West Coast music needs to be experienced in its natural environment to be fully appreciated. According to Boi-1da, the sound doesn’t resonate beyond Los Angeles.

The remarks stunned Mustard, who was quick to dig up receipts, reminding his fellow producer of past praise. Specifically, Mustard pointed out that Boi-1da had celebrated the success of Not Like Us, a track Mustard co-produced with Sean Momberger, which hit No. 1.

Expressing his disappointment, Mustard didn’t hold back. He even hinted at immortalizing Boi-1da’s words with a “wacced-out mural” in the future. The tension is particularly surprising given Boi-1da’s history.

While he contributed to Drake’s “Family Matters,” a pointed diss toward Kendrick earlier this year, he also worked on tracks for Kendrick’s critically acclaimed Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers album in 2021. The contradiction adds another layer to the ongoing drama.

Fans on social media are already calling for a resolution, with many suggesting a producer showdown on Verzuz, hosted by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland. A battle of beats might be the ultimate way to settle the score and let the music speak for itself.

For now, the tension between these two heavyweight producers mirrors the broader rivalry between their respective camps, keeping fans captivated—and the industry buzzing.

DJ Mustard Reveals Why He’ll Never Work With Drake https://www.hot97.com/news/dj-mustard-says-he-wont-work-with-drake-hes-a-strange-guy/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 01:28:08 +0000 In a new interview, DJ Mustard got candid about Drake and revealed why he wiped his hands with the rapper. Mustard tells the LA Times he has no plans to produce a song for Drake. “I don’t think I want to make a song with that dude,” he says. The Faith Of A Mustard Seed performer says Drake is a “strange guy.” Earlier this month, Mustard referred to the rapper as the “Malcolm X of white people.”

“Drake is the Malcolm x of white people [laughing emoji] and @Akademiks make sure you post @GordoSZN first week since drake thought he did a thing with making him drop on the same day as me [laughing emoji],” he posted to X. The producer believes Drake is behind the lackluster sales of his latest album. DJ Mustard also claims DJ Akademiks and Gordo SZN helped sabotage his album rollout. Drake fans immediately fired back, casting the blame on Mustard. While the producer entertained the back-and-forth initially, he eventually retreated.

However, before gracefully bowing out, he refers to Drake’s fan base as “the Nation of drizzlam.” He addresses the situation during the discussion saying, “These guys don’t go to sleep — all they do is tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet.” Mustard continues: ” That’s where ‘the Nation of drizzlam’ came from. I said it in a joking manner, but I guess on Twitter it looked like I was mad.” He jokingly suggested that Drake use the phrase and says he won’t charge him for it.

Mustard Must Pay $24K A Month For Child Support In Divorce Settlement https://www.hot97.com/news/mustard-must-pay-24k-a-month-for-child-support-in-divorce-settlement/ https://www.hot97.com/news/mustard-must-pay-24k-a-month-for-child-support-in-divorce-settlement/#respond Tue, 15 Oct 2024 02:42:03 +0000 Mustard has finalized his divorce and is ordered to pay more than $24,000 in child support to his ex-wife Chanel Thierry.

According to TMZ,  Mustard is on the hook for $24,500, which is considerably less than the $82,000 a month Thierry requested during the court proceedings.

While he agrees to pay child support,  Mustard gets to keep all of his property, house, jewelry, and will maintain the rights to his lucrative music catalog. Additionally, he retains his fleet of luxury cars which includes a 2022 Maybach Benz, a 2018 Lamborghini Aventador, a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, and a 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan. He also owns a classic 1960 Chevy Impala.

The court also ordered Thierry to pay half of their children’s school and medical expenses. Mustard consented to pay for all of the children’s extracurricular activities.

Per the terms of their prenuptial agreement, Thierry was paid a one-time lumpsome payment of $315,000. She will not receive any additional spousal support.

Mustard and Thierry had been together since they were 19 years old. They were engaged in 2018 and married in 2020.

After their separation, they filed for divorce in May of 202s. Last year, the separation got ugly as both parties made allegations against the other on social media. On Threads, Thierry claimed that Mustard would not let her see their children during the Christmas holidays.

“Imagine not allowing a mother to see her kids on Christmas for the second year in the row is NASTY WORK,” she wrote. “Especially after they already expected to see her. Some of these men are more bitter then they appear. A true [clown emoji]. Bitter at this point is an understatement.”

Mustard and Thierry will share joint legal custody of the children.

Mustard Reveals Several Rappers Turned Down Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Hey Now’ Beat https://www.hot97.com/news/mustard-reveals-several-rappers-turned-down-kendrick-lamars-hey-now-beat/ https://www.hot97.com/news/mustard-reveals-several-rappers-turned-down-kendrick-lamars-hey-now-beat/#respond Mon, 20 Jan 2025 19:54:05 +0000 Mustard recalls that several rappers turned down the track that would become “Hey Now” on Kendrick Lamar‘s GNX album.

In an interview with PEOPLE,  Mustard first made the track in 2019 and shared it with YG and Quavo who passed on it. Also, Ty Dolla $ign recorded a song to the track but Mustard decided to go another way.

“I played it for YG … I was trying to make a West Coast version of ‘Grindin’.’ That’s why it’s so empty like that,” Mustard said. “That’s why it’s just weird sounds. [H]e didn’t end up doing it.”

“After YG, And I played it for Quavo and I’m like, ‘Quavo man if you get this, if you can connect to this song, I’m telling you,’ he’s like, ‘What the hell you want me to do to it? You want me to whisper on the beat?’ And I’m like, ‘Alright.’ So I didn’t force it on him,” he continued.

Mustard noted that Kendrick got his hands on the track but he didn’t get to hear the finished product until the “Not Like Us” video shoot.

“I was talking to Kendrick one day and I was just like, ‘Man, I got this really weird-ass beat, but I really love it. Like, I know that I love this beat,” he explained. “And I sent it to him and right away he said, ‘Oh yeah, I got it.’ And I was like, ‘Alright.’ But still, I hadn’t heard it until I went to the ‘Not Like Us’ video shoot.”

Eventually, “Hey Now” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Mustard also spoke about the impact of “Not Like Us” which is nominated for five Grammy Awards including “Song of the Year.”

“I just feel like all this sh*t I got to attribute to God,” Mustard said. “I’ve won a Grammy with Ella. I’ve been nominated for Grammys. I’ve had years of runs and I would think, ‘Maybe I’ll get a nomination here or there.’ So for this to come right now it’s just like, ‘Oh, sh*t. OK.’ It’s just time, man. Everything happens for a reason.”

Mustard’s Ex-Wife Speaks After Divorce Finalized https://www.hot97.com/news/mustards-ex-wife-speaks-after-divorce-finalized/ https://www.hot97.com/news/mustards-ex-wife-speaks-after-divorce-finalized/#respond Wed, 16 Oct 2024 09:30:00 +0000 Chanel Thierry, a designer and model, has broken her silence following the news of her divorce from Mustard. On Tuesday (Oct. 15), she revealed shocking allegations, including claims that the “Not Like Us” producer faked having cancer to manipulate her into staying with him.

“Although I wasn’t planning on saying anything, I fought hard not to be silenced,” Thierry wrote in a candid post on Threads. “The ruling happened back in July, but now, as soon as I return the car to its owner, my business is splashed all over the blogs. I know this is public information, but the timing is convenient.”

Mustard was directly accused of pettiness by her. “I knew you’d be petty enough to let everyone know you ‘took the car’ and made it seem like my back child support was payment for the car. It wasn’t. That’s just back child support.”

As first reported by TMZ, the couple will share joint legal custody of their three children. Mustard was ordered to pay over $24,500 per month in child support. Thierry will also receive a one-time spousal support payment of $315,000, plus an additional lump sum of $275,000.

Thierry expressed frustration over what she perceives as a long-standing campaign to tarnish her image. “For two years, your PR team dragged me through the mud to make me look bad, and you’re still doing it! Please stop using me for your publicity and record sales. After he filed for divorce in May 2022, he ‘claimed’ to have cancer to keep me in the house. I left in July. There was no cancer.”

Accompanying her post were screenshots of alleged texts from Mustard, where he said, “You should know how hard cancer is for me. I feel lost and helpless.” Another message read, “Who would do that to someone who could have cancer?”

He also owned their Chatsworth mansion and several other properties in Los Angeles.
