Nelly is looking back on his brief feud with Eminem with regret, admitting he overreacted and turned a misunderstanding into an unnecessary battle. The Country Grammar rapper recently told Bootleg Kev that he misinterpreted a comment Eminem made and, without thinking, escalated the situation on national television.
Appearing on TRL, Nelly threw a playful jab, claiming he “eats M&M’s candy” and declaring St. Louis a no-fly zone for the Detroit rap icon. The moment was meant as a flex, but it quickly turned into something more when Eminem fired back. In a casual but cutting response, Em took aim at Nelly with a sharp line about “stomping in my Air Force Ones.”
Realizing he had instigated an unnecessary beef, Nelly apologized—not out of fear, but because he recognized his mistake. The tension dissolved when he met Eminem backstage at a concert after-party and discovered that Em’s daughter, Hailie Jade, was a huge fan of his music.
The encounter put everything into perspective. Nelly recalled that he and the St. Lunatics had always admired Eminem, making their brief conflict seem even more pointless.
At the time, Eminem had bigger battles to fight, juggling high-profile rap feuds that required his full attention. Meanwhile, Nelly channeled his energy into his music, propelling his sophomore album to multi-platinum success.
In hindsight, the clash was a blip on the radar—an impulsive misstep in an era of rap rivalries, quickly resolved before it could escalate.
