Jermaine Dupri’s highly anticipated docuseries on Atlanta’s iconic Magic City strip club has officially found a home at STARZ. The five-part series, produced by JD and Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment, is set to premiere this summer, as confirmed by Deadline.
Directed by Charles Todd, the documentary will take an in-depth look at Magic City’s influence on Hip Hop and Atlanta’s nightlife scene. It will feature interviews with 2 Chainz, Nelly, Shaquille O’Neal, Quavo, Killer Mike, Big Boi, and others while diving into themes like crime, Black entrepreneurship, and the club’s role in shaping culture. The series will also highlight the story of Magic City’s founder, Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney.
“Magic City: An American Fantasy is a riveting behind-the-curtain look at one of the most unique places in Black culture,” said Kathryn Busby, STARZ’s President of Original Programming. “The docuseries’ unprecedented insider access and history unveiled from those who built its empire is a perfect complement to Starz’s slate of adult, culture-driving shows.”
JD has long been vocal about Magic City’s significance in Atlanta’s music and entertainment world. “Magic City is a second home for me. It’s the one place where celebrities, hustlers, politicians, and Atlanta locals all come together,” he previously shared. “I’ve watched it evolve over the years from a local joint to an internationally-recognized spot. It’s about time we tell this story the right way.”
In other news, Nelly recently praised JD’s impact while calling out Diddy for avoiding their planned Verzuz battle. Speaking on Drink Champs, he made a bold claim. “Him and Puff was going to do a Verzuz, and Puff was gon’ get murdered.”Easy! Easy!” emphasizing JD’s unmatched ability to create timeless hits.
