Appearing on the latest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Stand-Up Roundtable, Foxx, who was joined by Sarah Silverman, Seth Meyers, Roy Wood Jr., and others, shared an unbelievable night he spent with Brown and a group of friends.

“One night, me and Bobby Brown, we’re doing our thing, we’re f**ked up, and we’re doing ‘Don’t Be Cruel,’ Foxx recalled

“So, we’re partying, and I say, ‘I got to use the bathroom,'” the Oscar winner continued. “And while I’m in the bathroom, I hear, “Now, Jamie, let me tell you something, I don’t do this for nobody. I usually get a million dollars to sing a song.”

Foxx went on to explain that it was Whitney Houston who started singing “I Will Always Love You,” and he grabbed his camera to record it.

“So now I got the tape, I go back to my crib, we’re having a little afterparty, and all of a sudden I hear this (knock, knock, knock) … It’s Bobby Brown,” Foxx explained.

“He’s like, ‘I got to take that tape,'” added Foxx. “I said, ‘Bobby, I don’t have it.'”

“‘Well, I got to take something.’ So, he goes into my closet, and he’s taking clothes. He’s matching outfits and shit,'” alleged Foxx.

Foxx admitted that he’s still in possession of the footage that Brown so desperately wanted — but he has no intention of sharing it with the public.. “I have the tape,” explained Foxx. “But it doesn’t mean anything anymore. Why? YouTube.”

Elsewhere during the discussion, Foxx shared how he felt when people said he had a clone after he recovered from a stroke.

“When they said I was a clone, that made me flip. I’m sitting in the hospital bed, like, ‘These bitch-ass muthaf**kas are trying to clone me,'” Foxx said.

Cardi B Addresses Beef With Nicki Minaj https://www.hot97.com/news/cardi-b-addresses-beef-with-nicki-minaj/ https://www.hot97.com/news/cardi-b-addresses-beef-with-nicki-minaj/#respond Fri, 04 Oct 2024 22:36:46 +0000 Cardi B has openly discussed her ongoing rivalry with Nicki Minaj during a heated exchange with the Barbz. The beef kicked off on Thursday, October 3rd, when Cardi shared a meme featuring Whitney Houston on X (formerly Twitter). This seemed to be her response to accusations that she cheated on her estranged husband Offset with an NFL player. The meme included a clip from Houston’s 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer, where she posed the question, “But do you really know? Do you really know?”

A user named @barbieemaffia took issue with Cardi’s post, suggesting that she was copying Nicki Minaj, a well-known fan of Houston. They commented, “Oh now she wanna post Whitney memes? [crying face emoji].” This jab fueled the ongoing beef between Cardi and Nicki, prompting Cardi to quickly respond. She shared evidence that she had previously posted Whitney Houston memes, including a screenshot from three years ago. Cardi challenged the critic, saying, “You sure bout that?? Now go see if bitches was posting this meme before that date.” The exchange highlights the tension that continues to simmer between the two rap stars amid their longstanding rivalry.

The back-and-forth escalated when another Nicki fan accused Cardi of using Minaj’s name to remain relevant, mocking her tumultuous relationship with Offset. Cardi defended herself, stating that she had long moved on from her feud with Nicki and emphasized, “Bitch that beef so stale and dry and do nothing for me… as fans stop harassing people over dumb shit if y’all don’t want a fuckin respond… y’all all over my quotes over a meme that ain’t had shit to do wit y’all.”

This beef resurfaced following claims made by Akademiks on his Rumble channel, alleging that Offset caught Cardi with an NFL player, though he didn’t disclose the player’s name. Akademiks hinted that the player was a wide receiver, referencing a touchdown. The situation escalated further when Offset commented on Cardi’s Instagram Live, saying, “U fucked with a baby inside tell the truth!!” Cardi acknowledged the allegations, revealing that she started talking to other men in June, shortly before filing for divorce and a few months prior to the birth of their third child. The ongoing rivalry between Cardi and Nicki continues to fuel the drama, with fans eagerly watching how the situation unfolds.

Lauryn Hill Gives Heartfelt Tribute To Roberta Flack https://www.hot97.com/news/lauryn-hill-gives-heartfelt-tribute-to-roberta-flack/ https://www.hot97.com/news/lauryn-hill-gives-heartfelt-tribute-to-roberta-flack/#respond Thu, 27 Feb 2025 03:47:48 +0000 After the passing of Roberta Flack on Monday (Feb. 24), many tributes have poured in to honor the legendary singer and pianist. One of the tributes came from another iconic singer, Lauryn Hill.

Taking to Instagram, Ms. Hill lauded Flack for her musicianship as she shared throwback pictures of Flack and album covers for First Take and Killing Me Softly.

“Whitney Houston once said to me that Roberta Flack’s voice was one of the purest voices she’d ever heard,” Hill said. “I grew up scouring the records my Parents collected. Mrs. Flack was one of their favorites and quite instantly became one of mine as soon as I was exposed to her.”

“She looked cool and intelligent, gentle and yet militant. The songs she recorded from ‘Compared to What’ to ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ to her version of ‘Ballad of the Sad Young Men’ fascinated me with their beauty and sophistication,” she added.

Hill added that Flack was an “artist, a singer-songwriter, a pianist and composer” who displayed the possibilities of what could be done “within the idiom of Soul” with her “creative choices and standards.

“Killing Me Softly, a song Mrs. Flack didn’t write but made hugely popular became the song that catapulted myself and the Fugees into household phenomena,” she continued. “We wanted to honor the beauty and brilliance of this song and her performance of it to our generation.”

“I will forever be grateful for the sensitivity and delicate power of her Love and Artistry. Rest in Grace Beloved One,” she concluded.

In 1996, The Fugees remade one of Flack’s signature songs “Killing Me Softly With His Song.” For Flack, the track topped the Billboard Hot 100. It won the 1974 Grammy Award for Record of the Year. The Fugees’ version appeared on the multi-platinum album The Score and became an international smash. Although it was not released as a commercial single in the U.S., it eventually sold more than three million copies.

At the 1996 MTV Movie Awards, Flack graced the stage to perform the song along with the Fugees.

Cardi B Seemingly Responds To Allegations That Offset Caught Her W/ NFL Player https://www.hot97.com/news/cardi-b-seemingly-responds-to-allegations-that-offset-caught-her-w-nfl-player/ https://www.hot97.com/news/cardi-b-seemingly-responds-to-allegations-that-offset-caught-her-w-nfl-player/#respond Fri, 04 Oct 2024 15:44:28 +0000 Cardi B seemingly responds to after allegations of her cheating on Offset with a NFL player.

The estranged couple have been making headlines lately, as they are navigating a pretty public breakup. We previously reported while on Instagram live, Cardi slammed Offset after he called her out for sleeping with another man while she was pregnant.

“U f***** with a baby inside tell the truth !!” Offset responded. “AND DID !!!!!!” Cardi wrote via X. Offset shared his sentiments on X as well, tweeting, “the fact u keep going shows you hurt leave [me] aline don’t you got a nigga [laughing emoji] ain’t we divorced..”

“You want to play those games with me; we’re going to play those games too.” Cardi continued. “Since you wanna f****n threaten me talking about you wanna take my s**t. You want to take to my s**t because I’m moving on? Move on! Move on… Why can’t you move on?”

Neither Cardi nor Offset confirmed who the alleged person is- however, DJ Akademiks has a theory of his own.

While on a livestream, AK alleged that Offset caught Cardi cheating with an NFL player. He didn’t share who the said player is, however, he did refer to him as a “dog.”

Cardi seemingly caught wind of AK’s claims and fans speculated that she responded with a meme. She shared the viral Whitney Houston meme where the singer is asking, “But do you know? Do you really know?”

Cardi filed for divorce from Offset back in August. According to TMZ, the divorce has been brewing for a while. After nearly 7 years of marriage a source says, “it’s been a long time in coming.” The source claims, “they’re just disconnected from each other.”

The couple share three children together.

The Notorious B.I.G.’s Estate Is Vauled At Over 100 Million https://www.hot97.com/news/the-notorious-b-i-g-s-estate-is-vauled-at-over-100-million/ https://www.hot97.com/news/the-notorious-b-i-g-s-estate-is-vauled-at-over-100-million/#respond Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:11:06 +0000 Primary Wave is reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire a significant stake in The Notorious B.I.G.’s music catalog, along with his name and likeness rights. The agreement is estimated to be worth between $100 million and $150 million.

Born Christopher Wallace and widely known as Biggie Smalls, the Brooklyn rap icon’s estate is managed by Mark Pitts and Wayne Barrow, co-founders of ByStorm Entertainment and former Bad Boy Records executives. Primary Wave’s founder Larry Mestel and partner Steve Greener are leading the negotiations.

The deal follows the recent passing of Voletta Wallace, The Notorious B.I.G.’s mother, who died last week at 78. She played a crucial role in preserving her son’s legacy after his 1997 murder, producing a biopic and overseeing his estate’s business affairs.

Primary Wave, founded in 2006, has built a portfolio featuring legendary artists such as Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Stevie Nicks, and Luther Vandross. The company focuses on acquiring heritage catalogs as the value of music rights continues to rise. Recent deals include partnerships with Grammy-winning songwriter Jimmy Webb, country-folk singer Jerry Jeff Walker’s estate, and violinist Itzhak Perlman.

The market for music catalogs has surged, with artists like Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan securing multimillion-dollar deals. Analysts predict publishing rights could exceed $10 billion by 2030.

Biggie, widely regarded as one of hip-hop’s greatest artists, created some of the genre’s most enduring hits. His 1994 debut album Ready to Die included Juicy and Big Poppa, while his 1997 posthumous release Life After Death featured Hypnotize and Mo Money Mo Problems, earning multiple Grammy nominations. The album dropped two weeks after his fatal drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.

Since his death at 24, his estate has thrived through licensing, merchandising, and posthumous releases. His legacy has been celebrated in the biopic Notorious and several documentaries. In 2020, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Warner Music Group has continued to expand Biggie’s presence in pop culture. In December 2023, the label partnered with The Sandbox to launch Breakin’ B.I.G., a ’90s-inspired virtual game set in a Brooklyn neighborhood shaped by Wallace’s influence. Earlier that year, Warner debuted Iconic Records: Life After Death, a visual podcast series on The Roku Channel exploring his final album.

I’m deeply grateful to every artist, writer, and collaborator who trusted me to bring their vision to life. This celebration is about honoring the past while embracing the future.”

Earlier this month, Jerkins was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, an accolade that recognizes his unparalleled contributions to music and songwriting. Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins Launches ‘Alienz Alive’ Label https://www.hot97.com/news/rodney-darkchild-jerkins-launches-alienz-alive-label/ Fri, 14 Jun 2024 23:46:01 +0000 Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, super producer and songwriter, has launched a new record label called Alienz Alive, dedicated to promoting faith-inspired artists.

The 46-year-old hitmaker’s label aims to build a community, develop artists, foster dialogue, and encourage storytelling that seeks truth and glorifies God.

With decades of experience working with music icons like Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson, Jerkins brings invaluable expertise to his new label. Created in 2022, Alienz Alive sees Jerkins developing each artist and actively managing the label’s daily operations.

The label’s inaugural roster includes five artists: Jon Keith, GAWVI, IMRSQD, Alex Jean, and TJ Carroll. On June 7, Jerkins introduced these artists with a montage of their latest singles.

In a statement, Jerkins shared his motivation for the label, saying, “When I thought about launching a new company, I knew it had to reflect my faith. I rapped in church as a kid and was featured on Kirk Franklin’s ‘Revolution,’ so this is a full circle moment for me. Launching this label feels revolutionary.”

Jerkins describes Alienz Alive as a Christ-centered creative community focused on artist development. “We encourage our artists to use their gifts to uplift and inspire. Musically, we draw influences from Hip Hop, R&B, and Indie Rock. As long as it glorifies God and it’s dope, all are welcome.”

In late May, the label celebrated its artists’ new music debuts. Alex Jean released his inspirational single “I Need Faith,” and IMRSQD shared his cautionary track “Don’t Do Molly.” Jon Keith delivered the upbeat pop hit “BAGS,” while GAWVI released “Into the Atmosfear,” his first solo track in three years. Another track, “Doors Down,” is set to drop next week.

TJ Carroll also delivered his trap-infused song “I’d Rather,” one of several tracks he has released through Alienz Alive since early 2023.

In other news, Jerkins hinted at a potential sequel to Brandy and Monica‘s classic R&B duet, “The Boy Is Mine.” “Time for the sequel,” commented Jerkins on Instagram.

The suggestion was inspired by two R&B legends’ appearances in the new Ariana Grande music video of the same title, which was released last week.

Nicki Minaj Opens Up About Previous Drug Addiction https://www.hot97.com/news/nicki-minaj-opens-up-about-previous-drug-addiction/ Thu, 09 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000  Nicki Minaj graces the cover of the December issue of Vogue Magazine.

During the interview with Vogue, Minaj opens up about how she overcame an addiction to medication she was prescribed for menstrual cramps. She expresses, “no one told me that this was a narcotic and this was addictive. Luckily I was able to ground myself. But — once an addict, always an addict.”

“I feel like if you’ve ever experienced addiction to anything, which I have, you always have to think twice and three times about the choices that you make.”

Minaj also reflected on how her situation was similar to other high profile celebrities who battled with addiction. “Look at some of our biggest celebrities. They eventually either get laughed out of wanting to go outside anymore, like Michael Jackson, or criticized, like Whitney Houston, or they fight silent battles, like Prince.” She expressed. “These are some of the greatest of all time. And one day they decided, ‘You know what? I’d rather self-medicate and be in my own world.’”

Elsewhere in the interview she opens up about her father’s struggle with addiction .“I think about watching my father go back and forth, and I just wish that at the time I understood that he wasn’t doing it because he wanted to,” she said. “I thought that he was making a conscious effort to be addicted to a drug that would have him steal his children’s video games and sell them for money.

“Think about that — who would make a conscious effort to do that? Now I realize, those people weren’t making those choices because they wanted to hurt their family. Addiction took over their bodies and their lives. They were victims too.”
