Apple Music has introduced a new feature, Set Lists, designed to bring artists closer to their fans by sharing concert experiences and upcoming tour dates directly through the Apple Music for Artists platform. Fans can experience a glimpse of a concert even if they can’t attend through this innovative tool.
The Set Lists feature integrates seamlessly with Bandsintown, a platform known for its concert discovery services, allowing artists to easily create tour-related playlists. Individual concerts, entire tours, or residency shows can be created and automatically published across multiple platforms, including the artist’s Apple Music page, Shazam profile, and event pages. The artist uploads the cover art for their playlist and connects their Apple Music account with Bandsintown to enhance discoverability.
The process for creating a Set List is straightforward. Artists can search for tracks or paste Apple Music links to build their playlists, which can include not only their own songs but also covers and collaborations.
This gives artists the freedom to preview their live performances and tailor the playlist to reflect the actual set sequence. They can also schedule the playlist’s release date and rearrange the tracks to match the order of their shows.
Apple Music touts Set Lists as a versatile tool for artists. “This can be a fun way to announce a future tour, reach fans who couldn’t make the live experience, or reconnect with those that were at your show,” the platform said in a statement.
Set Lists can be easily promoted across social media, helping artists broaden their reach. Managing content is flexible, with options to hide or delete playlists if necessary. While hidden playlists remain accessible to fans who have already added them to their libraries, deleted playlists are permanently removed from all platforms.
The Set Lists feature also ranks playlists based on popularity, giving fans the option to explore both recent and past concert experiences. This tool is now available to all verified artists through their Apple Music for Artists accounts.
Set Lists is the latest move in Apple Music’s ongoing effort to deepen the connection between musicians and their audiences while offering powerful promotional tools. Apple Music for Artists, launched in August 2019 to compete with Spotify for Artists, provides musicians with real-time insights into their streaming data, helping them track their performance.
Earlier this year, Apple introduced the Apple Music Partner Program, a premium analytics toolkit for record labels and distributors. This tool uses Shazam technology to track global streaming trends and radio plays.
Apple Music upgraded its Artist Analytics dashboard in July, giving artists comprehensive data on their airplay across more than 40,000 radio stations worldwide. Through Set Lists, Apple aims to empower artists within the ever-evolving digital music landscape by giving them deeper insights and promoting opportunities.
