Raekwon has announced that he will be releasing his highly anticipated new album this year, The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Taking to Instagram, “The Chef” shared the news that new music is on the way.
“A year of growth and development”, Raekwon’s post read. “Let’s win 2025, THE EMPERORS NEW CLOTHES. Time to serve the masses, this carefully sculpted shit!”
The new album will be Raekwon’s 8th solo project and his first since dropping The Wild in 2017. It was the third installment of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx in 2020.
Along with his music, Raekwon is also interested in working behind the camera as a filmmaker. During a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Raekwon also shared that he pitched Leonardo DiCaprio’s team an idea for a Wu-Tang film before Wu-Tang: An American Saga was released on Hulu. The meeting was set up by Q-Tip and also included The RZA.
“I wish we could have been able to sit down with [DiCaprio] because the way I had him looking at it — I said, ‘This would be, like, a slash of Goodfellas and Menace II Society, mixed in one,’” Raekwon said.
“He was super open. … But at that time, RZA was already in pocket with what he already wanted to do,” he continued.
Rawkwon still believes that a Wu-Tang movie could hit theatres in the future.
“One day, maybe I might get to show my version of it.”
“It could still be made. … God willing, we will really give you guys another taste of how we really see it,” he said.
In another segment of the interview, Raekwon revealed that he’s currently at work on a documentary for his iconic debut album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…
“We went back and decided to do a documentary about it,” he said. The title of the doc is The Purple Tape Files which refers to the color of the tape edition of the LP.
