Tiger Woods will miss the majority of this golf season after rupturing his Achilles tendon, Yahoo Sports reported.
Confirming his health status, Woods announced Tuesday (March 11) on social media that he underwent surgery and is now on the road to recovery.
As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote.
This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon. “The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken on the post.
“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you all for the support,” the post concluded.
So far this year, Woods has not played a game on the PGA Tour. He was slated to make his season debut at The Genesis Invitational in February, a tournament that he hosts annually, but withdrew shortly after the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods. He has competed with his team in TGL events in Florida.
Over the last few years, Woods has suffered numerous injuries. He’s undergone several major back surgeries, and he almost lost his right leg after he was in a car crash in Southern California in 2021.
In September 2024, Woods underwent “microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine” for nerve impingement in the lower back. According to reports, it is the sixth surgery on his lower back in the past 10 years.
Regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all-time, Wood won on tour 82 times, tying him with Sam Snead’s all-time record. Also, he’s won 15 major championships, trailing Jack Nicklaus’ record with 18.
