The singer recently debuted onscreen for the first time, co-starring alongside Keke Palmer in One Of Those Days. Seemingly bit by the acting bug, the singer is hunting for her next role, and being a superhero is next on the list. SZA reveals that she and her father share a love of comic books, and has her eyes on one character in particular: Storm.

In her opinion, SZA thinks she would be a “perfect” fit for the Marvel character and wants to delve into her origin story. “I think that would be so gnarley if I could be Storm’s origin story.”

SZA’s ‘S.O.S.’ Ties With ‘Thriller’ For Billboard Record

On the music front, SZA’s S.O.S. continues to make history, and the comparisons to Michael Jackson’s Thriller are undeniable. TMZ Hip Hop caught up with the singer outside Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, just as she and the late King of Pop officially tied for the longest-running Top 10 album by a Black artist on the Billboard 200.

While Thriller achieved its legendary status without the advantage of streaming, S.O.S. is less than two years old and has already reached this milestone. It’s proof that classic albums continue to dominate, even as the music industry evolves.

Right now, SZA is on fire. Her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, “Luther,” is currently the No. 1 song in the country following their electrifying Super Bowl performance. Fans are eager to know if a music video is in the works, but for now, SZA is keeping quiet on the subject.

With her and Kendrick gearing up for the tour, there’s speculation that the visual could make its debut for concertgoers.

“[I] actually didn’t believe this quote when I saw it written til I saw it come out her mouth just now CAUSE DEADASS SAME,” SZA posted on her Instagram Story, sharing the moment from a fan account. “Pls we must.”

This isn’t the first time SZA has shown love for Roan. After watching her electrifying, lucha libre-inspired Lollapalooza set last year, SZA shared a clip and admitted, “She makes me wanna keep making new music n art forever.” She also made it clear she was a fan by dropping an “I LOVE HER” comment under a Rolling Stone post about Roan’s Gov Ball performance. Both artists took the stage at both festivals, adding to the crossover energy between them.

SZA also recently spoke about Chappell Roan’s storytelling ability during an interview with Jennifer Hudson, praising her songwriting alongside Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. “There’s a lot of deep storytelling that really reflects their human experience,” she said, acknowledging the authenticity in their lyrics.

She even mentioned wanting to collaborate with Swift, recalling a conversation they had at the Grammys. “It’s so interesting to me. Every time she walks up to me or approaches me, I’m just like, ‘All right, this is happening, because that’s fully Taylor Swift,’” SZA shared. “I think what I mentioned was that I would love to write with her and love to build some things together.”

With both SZA and Roan eager to work together, fans might not have to wait long for this potential hit to come to life.

On X (Formerly Twitter), SZA shared a throwback video about staying at her mother’s house during quarantine in 2020. She also shared that being in lockdown caused her mental health to suffer greatly.

“Covid was hard. My granny had just died and I was hella depressed n masking. Not eating. Over working out,” she wrote. 

“But I always had my childhood home to n get lost. Still do. Grateful to be in a much better mental space now. s/o to those days tho.”

Responding to her heartfelt post,  one user commented that SZA simply “got big” during quarantine.

“Yall say weird s— like this and wonder why I’m different. I don’t feel comfortable w yall anymore . Lol,” SZA said. “Yall do realize I mean different as in I don’t go on live+ talk. And don’t communicate w yall like that anymore lmao not different as in change my appearance tf.”

In an interview with British Vogue, SZA talked about her appearance and her decision to get a BBL. After the surgery, she noted that “it just wasn’t super necessary.”

“I have other sh*that I need to work on about myself,” SZA said. “I need to get my f*cking mental health together. Not to say you can’t do those things simultaneously. Just, for me, I realize wherever you go, there you’ll be.”

The Grammy Award winner did not rule out undergoing medical enhancements.

“I’ll do a whole bunch more sh*t just like it if I want to before I’m f*cking dead.

SZA did share that recovering from the surgery was a difficult process.

“I gained all this weight from being immobile while recovering and trying to preserve the fat. It was just so stupid,” SZA added. “But who gives a f—? You got a BBL, you realize you didn’t need the s—. It doesn’t matter.”

“I love my butt. Don’t get me wrong. My booty looks nice. And I’m grateful that it looks pretty much,” SZA continued. “I don’t know, sometimes natural, but I don’t even care. It’s something that I wanted.”

On the music side, SZA will be heading out on a stadium tour in April on the Grand National Tour in support of Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX.

Both SZA and Kendrick are Top Dawg Entertainment alum.

SZA AND KENDRICK ANNOUNCE GRAND NATIONAL STADIUM TOUR

In other news, SZA and Kendrick will kick off their Grand National stadium tour in April 2025. The 21-city trek will support Lamar’s GNX project. While SZA has proven herself on stage and is sure to perform well, she suffers from imposter syndrome. In a November British Vogue interview, the singer admitted being “scared” to headline London’s annual Glastonbury festival. SZA is the second woman to lead the three-day festival, after Beyonce in 2011.

“I just felt like nothing I could do would be enough for Glastonbury, no matter what I did,” she tells the outlet. “It scared me. I was like, well, I wish I wasn’t doing it, but I couldn’t walk away from it…” She continued: “I want to be the second Black woman in history, but then it’s such a f*cking tall order. It’s like, no matter what you do here, you will be subject to criticism. Because of who you are. But that’s life. That’s life, you know?”

On Wednesday, May 21, SZA  brought out Lizzo to perform the remix of Lizzo’s hit song “Special.” The dynamic duo also held the sold-out crowd captive at SoFi Stadium as they sang the 2022 song from Lizzo’s album of the same name.

“Okay, so usually when I do very scary things, I have a tendency to bring my best friend with me. You may have seen her,” SZA said when introducing Lizzo. “SoFi [Stadium] counts as one of those scary things, so I brought my best friend for energy and positivity.”

“Lizzo, can you come hang with me?” she said as Lizzo rose onto the stage from below.

Following the performance, Lizzo shared the performance on Instagram.

 “BABYS FIRST STADIUM PERFORMANCE— I love u @sza u r THEE DIVA ! ” her post read.

Since 2014, Lizzo and SZA have been friends as they both rose to superstardom.

During a Twitch stream in February, Lizzo lauded SAZ for her songwriting skills and “how they almost formed a girl band with an NSFW name.”

“She writes the craziest, most insane s— that you’re thinking and feeling, but she just finds a way to say it, and she sings it so beautifully out the gate, out of her mouth the first time,” Lizzo said at the time.

SZA also showed love to Lizzo in the past, and previously called on people to “practice kindness” instead of fat-shaming the singer. 

“I be wondering where all the virtue signaling, well spoken s— talking , internet warriors are when someone genuine needs defending,” SZA posted on X (formerly Twitter) in June 2023. “Where the f— do y’all be at for lizzo ? Do y’all actually know how to support others or only tear them down?”

On X earlier this week, SZA addressed the delay chatter with a tweet: “Punch was right,” referring to her TDE president, who responded with the eyes emoji. She elaborated, “U been told me stop sharing snippets and tea .. thought I was on to something . I’m clear now.”

One fan accused her of being “unprofessional,” sarcastically pointing out, “Wow it’s almost like you announced something and ignored it for 11 days.” SZA clapped back, “Cause sample clearances always happen within the preferred time frame lmao? I shoulda NEVER tried to give yall what u asked for. It wasn’t professional. It was KINDNESS AND A WILLINGNESS TO APPEASE u lunatics.”

When the fan doubled down, SZA didn’t hold back. “Yea atp you gotta just go to hell. I don’t work for you baby. All I can do is my best. Take care.” Another fan wondered if the backlash might lead her to delete her X account entirely. SZA dismissed the idea, saying, “NEVER THAT. N****s not bullying me. I don’t work for anyone but myself and God. I give so much to my fans energetically in person and online. If n****s wanna act DISGUSTING that’s on them.”

As for the criticism about announcing a release date prematurely, SZA wrapped up her comments with, “Apologies I’ve reached my maximum entertainment of complaints for the day. Pls try again during business hours tomorrow.”

While interviewing Coco Jones on his Club Shay Shay podcast, Sharpe asked the R&B songstress if she would ever consider getting a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift). Although Jones did not mention her by name, SZA made sure to set the record straight with the former NFL star by commenting on the post.

“Lmaooo now why would this be a question for coco. Poor baby she handled it well now Shay Shay,” SZA wrote.

“Incredibly tacky.. I wanted to come here too dah well,” SZA added in a second comment.

After her procedure, SZA has gone public with her regrets about the surgery. In an interview with British Vogue, SZA expressed her feelings behind getting a BBL.

“I gained all this weight from being immobile while recovering and trying to preserve the fat,” she said. “It was just so stupid. But who gives a f**k? You got a BBL, you realize you didn’t need the shit.”

While she may have had some regrets, she also shared that she loves her body and said she can do with it whatever she wants.

“I need to get my f**king mental health together,” she continued. “Not to say you can’t do those things simultaneously, just, for me, I realize wherever you go, there you’ll be. But I love my butt. Don’t get me wrong. My booty looks nice. And I’m grateful that it looks pretty much… I don’t know, sometimes it’s natural, but I don’t even care. It’s something that I wanted. I’m enjoying it. Outside of BBL discussions, SZA is gearing up to join Kendrick Lamar on his Grand National Tour. Beginning in April, the tour will hit stadiums across the country until August.
