Damon Dash may soon face arrest after repeatedly defying court-ordered deadlines in a federal case brought by filmmaker Josh Webber.

According to AllHipHop, the dispute centers on unpaid judgments and Dash’s refusal to disclose financial assets. A federal judge has warned that if Dash and his company, Poppington LLC, fail to comply with discovery demands by May 9, 2025, the court will hold him in contempt. A bench warrant may be issued to force his appearance.

The warning arrives amid turmoil within Dash’s legal team. His attorneys are seeking to withdraw from the case, citing his refusal to cooperate and his stated plan to file for bankruptcy. As of now, Dash has not initiated any formal bankruptcy proceedings, and no replacement counsel has appeared in court on his behalf.

This legal battle dates back to 2022, when Dash was ordered to pay Webber $805,000 for copyright infringement and defamation. The conflict deepened in 2024 after Dash publicly disparaged Webber, allegedly causing the director to lose a major film opportunity. In response, Webber amended his complaint, increasing his defamation claim to $4 million.

Despite multiple court directives, Dash has failed to respond to discovery requests served on March 10, 2025. His attorneys informed the court that he ignored repeated outreach and withheld required financial records. Frustrated with his noncompliance, they received court approval to file a motion to withdraw by May 16. Any opposition to that motion is due one week later.

Webber’s legal team has also requested permission to seize Dash’s personal property. Their target list includes business holdings and intellectual property, such as the rights to State Property, a cult film Dash helped produce. However, the judge declined to authorize the seizure, stating that ownership and turnover proceedings must first be resolved.

With his legal team stepping away and no bankruptcy protections in place, Dash’s position appears increasingly precarious. The court’s May 9 deadline looms, and failure to comply could lead to serious legal consequences, including arrest. At present, Dash remains unrepresented, and his silence in the courtroom mirrors his continued absence from discovery obligations.

As the legal saga unfolds, the fate of Dash’s assets—and his freedom—hangs in the balance. For now, the former music mogul seems determined to face the storm alone.
