During the latest episode of his It Is What It Is podcast, Ma$e mentioned that he attended Voletta Wallace’s funeral to his co-host Cam’ron and that the memorial felt like “the end of an era.” He also shared that he was too emotional to speak to some in attendance at the service. Cam then asked Ma$e if he felt uncomfortable sitting next to Diddy’s son.

“I wasn’t there. I was just wondering,” Cam joked. “I heard they put ya’ll by each other and the vibe wasn’t right.”

While not confirming his seating arrangement, Ma$e expressed that he would visit the disgraced Bad Boy Records founder behind bars.

I mean, if my name was on the list, I’d go visit Puff, you know?” Ma$e confirmed. “I would visit him, make sure that he’s good.”

“Why you ain’t do it when he was out?” Cam responded.

“These are the times you need people to check up and make sure you good. And not that I condone anything that they’re alleged to have done, just until they prove it, you kind of want to make sure that you don’t be like one of those people that, somebody did good for you…he didn’t do all bad, he did some good,” Ma$e answered.

I’m not talking about the tape stuff and all that, I’m talking about just the musical side, giving me an opportunity,” Ma$e clarified. “I think, as a person of class, you definitely got to show up and sit somewhere in the court, if they let you.”

Signing to the label in 1996, Ma$e released his classic debut album Harlem World, in 1997, followed by 1999’s Double Up. Following his tenure as a pastor of Saving a Nation Endangered Church he returned to the label to drop Welcome Back in 2024.

Tensions grew between the Ma$e and Diddy after he accused him of holding his publishing rights to all of his music. 

Eventually,  DIddy gave Ma$e back his publishing in 2023.

While the exchange was light-hearted, Ma$e appeared to be genuinely considering his attendance, expressing a wish to be there at least for a day. “I was trying to find a way to attend for at least one day,” he shared. Cam’ron supported this idea, stating, “If you’re going, I’m going… I’m not going alone for no random reason.”

Despite Tensions and Allegations, Ma$e Urges Caution and Compassion in Judging Diddy

Earlier this year, Ma$e made news by seemingly reaching out to Diddy, with whom he has had a rocky relationship over the years. After the funeral of Biggie Smalls’ mother, Voletta Wallace, Ma$e commented, “If my name was on the list, I would visit Puff. I would check in on him; these are the moments when people need to feel cared for and assured that they’re okay.”

Acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations against Diddy, Ma$e stressed the importance of not rushing to judgment against someone who has had a positive influence in one’s life. “I don’t condone anything he’s allegedly done,” he clarified, “but until proven guilty, it’s crucial to acknowledge that he hasn’t only done wrong. He has also done good.” Ma$e further separated Diddy’s personal issues from the opportunities he has offered in the music industry. “I’m not discussing the tape controversies; I’m focusing solely on the musical aspect and the opportunities he provided me. I believe it reflects class to show up in court if permitted.”

As the conversation unfolded, Cam’ron pressed Ma$e for his thoughts on Diddy’s culpability. Ma$e, without hesitation, replied, “I don’t know.” With the trial fast approaching, eyes across the music world are watching not just for Ma$e’s potential appearance but for what it could signal about where he stands with Diddy.

During an interview with XXL, Jones was asked his view on “where Ma$e is at in his career, and just his Hip Hop legacy in general.”

Capo took the time to throw some shade at the “Feel So Good” rapper’s weight.

“He needs to go on a diet,” Jones said of Ma$e. “He needs to get his life together. He needs to go to the doctor and get a physical. He look terrible.”

“N*gga look big around the neck, waist look crazy. I’m body-shaming this n-gga. He need to go get his shit together, get on the treadmill, do some push-ups, do something, especially if you’re playing with me. You gonna need it.”

This isn’t the first time that Jones expressed his feelings about Ma$e. Appearing on Justin Laboy’s Respectfully podcast, Jones alleged that Ma$e began to treat Cam’ron differently after his career took off as a solo artist at Bad Records.

 “I watched Ma$e shit on Cam and everybody around him. Like, all the time,” he said. “I was Cam’s man, you heard? Cam and Ma$e were so-called best friends, grew up together… I was there for everything. That’s one thing people can’t never say, is that I wasn’t there for every single thing.”

“Cam was jumping out the window for him, which a friend should. Like, being overprotective, making sure nothing happens,” Jones continued. “He was trying his best to make sure that Ma$e stayed as safe as possible. But Ma$e had got that money and lost his motherf**king mind.”

Outside of having a war of worlds with Ma$e and Cam’ron, Jones recently released his first solo album in six years, At the Church Steps. The LP is the sequel to his 2004 album On My Way To Church.

Jim Jones on Cam and Ma$e: Praise Amid Past Tensions

The Harlem rapper reflected on Cam and Ma$e buying the hatchet and teaming up for their sports show, It Is What It Is.

Jones voiced, “I seen crazier shit happen.” “I seen brothers that done shot brothers and shit like that. So, for friends to get back after whatever they went through, it’s not surprising to me. But I see they don’t talk about the days of being shit on, the things that separated them.” He added, “So it’s funny but kudos to them. They got a dope show. Who am I to hate on what they got going on? I hope they make a trillion dollars.”

In a separate interview, Jim Jones threw shade at Ma$e prior to these recent remarks. When questioned about his current terms with the artist, he said, “I don’t care about Ma$e. I don’t care for Ma$e too much. Tell Ma$e go say some prayers.” Still, he lauded his efforts on It Is What It Is, remarking, “They’re definitely very funny. I can’t take that way from them. And they’re very knowledgeable about basketball, they both grew up playing basketball.” “Ma$e was cool, Cam was definitely had a chance to go to the NBA. I can’t say that with no hate or nothing in my heart. Boy was dumb nice.”

Seated with headphones on, the Harlem rapper slipped the announcement into conversation on It Is What It Is. “I’m listening to the songs that [Cam’ron] picked out of the stuff I made … It’s gonna be crazy. We had to pick the right records. I let him pick the right records,” he said. When guest co-host Maurice Clarett pressed him on the timing of his next album, Ma$e offered a knowing smirk before responding, “May 25th. The first day of the Diddy trial. We’re dropping. You like that? You made me put it out there.” Murda later disclosed that the release would span three discs, adding, “Now we even.”

Ma$e Teases Documentary Amid Diddy’s Legal Drama

Diddy’s trial is set for May 5, but whether Ma$e will align his album release with the proceedings remains uncertain.

Timing his musical comeback to coincide with Diddy’s trial wouldn’t be Ma$e’s first dig at his former mentor’s mounting legal troubles. After federal agents raided Puff’s homes last year—an operation that ultimately led to his indictment on sex trafficking and racketeering charges—the rapper seemed to relish the fallout. “Reparations is getting closer and closer!” he quipped on It Is What It Is, shortly after the police search.

As co-host Cam’ron highlighted the raids aligning with the 27th anniversary of Biggie’s Life After Death, Ma$e responded, “It’s amazing that all of this would transpire on that day. That’s eerie, man! That’s crazy.” In a subsequent segment, Ma$e shared his reasons for staying largely mum on Diddy’s legal battles, teasing potential revelations about his former collaborator in upcoming documentaries. “I’m saving my takes for the documentary,” he remarked. “If y’all wondering how I feel, it’s coming soon — pause.”

Expressing his puzzlement over Ma$e’s decision to withhold the music, Cam’ron explained, “I don’t know what Ma$e is saving them for. But we got songs together and not together. I’m just not allowed to play them.” He also praised Ma$e’s unreleased catalog, emphasizing, “Ma$e got mad songs. Them shits is hot too. All Ma$e songs is hot.”

Despite his eagerness to share the music with the world, Cam’ron respects Ma$e’s wishes, admitting, “I asked him, ‘Could I play them?’ and he told me, ‘No.’ Maybe they just for him to enjoy.” Reflecting on their reconciliation and their successful sports talk show, Cam’ron hinted at taking their act on tour, indicating a strong partnership beyond music.

As individuals, Cam’ron’s latest project, The Lost Tapes Vol. 1, saw daylight in 2023, while Ma$e’s last album dates back to 2004’s Welcome Back. The duo’s reunion in 2022 marked the end of a longstanding feud that had lingered since the late 1990s, paving the way for their joint venture, It Is What It Is, which quickly became a sensation in sports media.

While the show garnered attention for featuring controversial figures like O.J. Simpson, both Cam’ron and Ma$e paid tribute to the NFL star and convicted felon following his recent passing from cancer. Their journey from childhood friends to influential media personalities underscores their enduring bond and their impact on both music and sports culture.

During an episode of The Link and Panda Show, the former Terror Squad member claimed that he interpolated the song from a comedy routine by Eddie Murphy and Ma$e overheard his idea.

The remaking of the chorus, which originates from Desi Arnaz & His Orchestra 1948 song “Cuban Cabby”, was supposed to be Cuban Link’s debut single. He even got assistance from the late great Big Pun.

“That was supposed to be my single […] The next thing I see is f**king ‘Horse & Carriage’ with Ma$e, Cam and f**king Pun,” Cuban Link said.

On the latest episode of Talk With Flee, Cam said that he and Ma$e did not steal the ong but Cuban Link “may have a case.”

“I have no idea what Cuban Link is talking about as far as Ma$e overhearing his hook and Ma$e stealing the hook,” Cam said in response. “This is what I will tell Cuban Link, though: if you sang your hook in front of Lance ‘Un’ Rivera, then you may have a case ’cause Un came up with that hook.

“‘Un’ Rivera is the one who came up saying he wanted to sing the Ricky Ricardo hook. If you ever sang that hook in front of Lance ‘Un’ Rivera, you may have an argument,” Cam continued. “But Ma$e didn’t come up with that hook.”

Released in 1998 off of Cam’ron’s debut album Confessions of Fire, “Horse & Carriage” was produced by the Trackmasters and featured Ma$e on the hook. Peaking at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song became Cam’s first major hit.

The “Horse & Carriage” remix was released the same year and featured Charli Baltimore, Silkk the Shocker, Wyclef Jean, and ironically Big Pun. 

During a recent episode of the It Is What It Is podcast, hosts Cam’ron, Treasure ‘Stat Baby’ Wilson, and Ma$e revisited Cam’s viral appearance on CNN. They criticized the network for frequently reaching out to them during controversies but not to promote “shit that’s positive.”

While remaining tight-lipped on the specifics, the rapper known for hits like “Feel So Good” hinted that he will address the matter in an upcoming project.

“And, I’m saving my takes for the documentary,” Ma$e revealed at the 5:38 mark. “So, if ya’ll wondering how I’m feel it’s coming soon.”

Taking to social media on Sunday (May 19), Puffy responded to chilling video footage obtained by CNN, which captured him during an altercation with the “Me & U” songstress.

“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you gotta do that,” he began, before claiming he was not himself: “I mean I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses.”

“My behavior on the video was inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he added. “I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and sought professional help, had to go to therapy, rehab. Had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”

Ma$e’s recent remarks echo his sentiments toward Puff’s ongoing legal battles earlier this year.

Speaking to Cam on their podcast, the “Welcome Back” rapper discussed the raids carried out by federal agents at Diddy’s Miami and Los Angeles homes on Monday (March 25), as Puff is at the center of a Homeland Security sex trafficking investigation.

“Reparations is getting closer and closer,” he began. “I’ll be sure to give you your percentage.”

“It’s amazing that all of this would transpire on that day,” he added, noting the federal raids coinciding with the 27th anniversary of Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic Life After Death album and the 21st anniversary of The Diplomats’ album Diplomatic Immunity.

“That’s eerie, man,” he continued.

Ma$e’s stance on the situation isn’t exactly shocking news for fans, given his rollercoaster relationship with his ex-boss. They’ve been playing the money blame game for what feels like forever.

In 2020, Ma$e claimed he struggled to regain his publishing rights from Combs. Though, he ultimately secured these rights until August 2023.

On the latest episode of It Is What It Is, Ma$e shared the events that led to him signing with Diddy’s label and his relationship with Biggie.

Upon his arrival to the Bad Boy scene, Ma$e said he spent significant time “working on my flow, working on my bars, working on my delivery.” He also studied the greats to refine his skills.

“I worked on it for like six months,” he explained. “I studied people like Method Man, I studied people like LL. I got my waves from Nas, I got my bounce from Method Man, I got my songwriting from LL.”

He then admitted that he was playing Tupac’s music more than his tunes of his future label mate.

“I wasn’t at first listening to Big. I was more like a Tupac fan. So when I got signed to Bad Boy, it was like, now I’m with Bad Boy, but I was really a Tupac fan.”

Eventually, Biggie won him over and catapulted him to stardom by allowing him to rock on the historic Apollo stage.

“Biggie was letting me hear his raps… And I learned so much about rap like that. And then one day, he was performing at the Apollo, and he brought me out, and that was the part that just changed everything.”

As time went on, Ma$e would perform several classic tracks with Biggie. His debut was on 112’s remix of “Only You” featuring him and Biggie. Ma$e was featured on Biggie’s “Mo Money, Mo Problems” which topped the Billboard 100 for two weeks. The same year, they also performed “Been Around the World” which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

He stated, “We taught you how to rap, n-gga.” “How you ran the whole organization? How you made Diplomats? N-gga, you ain’t made none of this! You were a fan. I put you down ’cause you had a free crib and you were a nice guy.” Jones then uploaded a snippet of his musical retort, captioning the clip, “I said wht I said after they laugh at th lies th truth still hurts… Why would I waste free promo got me trending I’m tryin to drop.”

Furthermore, he shared that both his upcoming album and film, At the Church Steps, are set to release soon. The track starts, “N-ggas play with your name, then you remind them who you are.” He counters Cam’s accusation, questioning Jim’s ties to those implicated in the federal racketeering case with 6ix9ine.

Cam’Ron Blasts Freedom Betrayal, Jones Stands Strong on Loyalty

As the drama was gearing up, Cam’Ron revealed during his “It Is What It Is” segment, “Stop tricking n-ggas out they freedom.” “‘Cause n-ggas get around you to put theyselves in better situations, bro. Not to be in worse situations than they was before they met you… You send them on dummy missions and trick them out they freedom… Shotti [Kifano “Shotti” Jordan, 6ix9ine’s former manager who was sentenced to 15 years in prison], he was trying to be a [manager], twelve years [in prison]. And I know you love Mel [Jamel “Mel Murda”/”Mel Matrix” Jones, who was sentenced to 135 months]. I love Mel Matrix, that’s my brother… You said when he come home, he gonna be the triple O.G. Get that man a job, my n-gga.”

In apparent response, Jones names several individuals arrested in connection with the case. He voices, “All my n-ggas do they time, you know my team body.” “It’s been seven years since I’ve seen Shotti / It’s been seven years since I saw Melly / And now he gotta fly straight ’cause he got four fellies.” The rapper continued, “So what more you want to ask him?” “Youn-ggas taught me how to rap, and now I’m platinum.”
