Draya Michele has been getting flamed on social media posting about air humidifiers amid the L.A. wildfires.
In a video posted on Instagram, Michele opened a Sereniby air purifier and referenced the massive fires taking place throughout Los Angeles County.
“While the unimaginable is happening with the fires in LA… air quality is so poor, toxic even,” her caption read. “I’m using the @sereniby_official air purifier to ensure that my kids and pets are breathing in fresh, double-filtered air.”
In the post, Michele noted that Serenbiy is offering a deal of $200 off on their products when you use the link in her bio on Instagram.
“There’s no price on peace of mind but having it is more valuable than most worldly things,” she wrote. “#prayforla #airquality #airpurifier.”
Although it seemed like a sponsored post, Sereniby issued a statement with People clarifying that Michele was not compensated for sharing the post. Also, 10 percent of its profits this month to the American Red Cross. This will help provide “financial assistance” to anyone impacted in Los Angeles hoping to get an air purifier.
“She and her team contacted us because she genuinely uses the product and believed it could help others dealing with the severe air quality in Los Angeles,” the statement reads. “Together, we explored ways to make our purifier as affordable as possible during this difficult time. We’re a small, family-run startup that only launched a few months ago, and we’re incredibly grateful for her genuine support.”
“Like so many others, we feel powerless against the devastation caused by the L.A. fires. But we want to help in whatever small way we can. We’re donating 10% of our January profits to the American Red Cross. We recognize there are countless urgent needs in this crisis. If financial assistance affording an air purifier can help lighten someone’s burden, we encourage those in L.A. to reach out to us directly. We’ll continue doing everything we can to support the community during this difficult time,” the statement continued.
Although the comments section was eventually muted, many blasted Michele for her insensitive post.
“Draya using the L.A. fires to promote an air purifier on her Instagram,” one comment read. “Tone deaf af.”
According to the latest figures, 200,000 people have been displaced due to the fires. More than 38,000 acres and 12,000 homes and buildings were destroyed by fire.
