After an exciting advent in music and sports, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed his interest in bringing global ambassador Drake to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview on Good Day New York, Rosanna Scotto asked Infantino whether Drake might be a candidate for the tournament’s halftime show. Scotto got the conversation started by name-dropping Drake, listing the past year when the rapper appeared at major events like the Super Bowl. “We could have a little bit of a rivalry,” she said, referring to Kendrick Lamar’s performance a few moments earlier. Infantino agreed, adding, “That’s a good idea,” and recalling an earlier moment with Drake when the host cities of the World Cup were revealed. Infantino also added, “Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities. I must have his number somewhere.” The scenario implies a continuing conversation between FIFA and famous cultural figures, showing a potential partnership.

Drake’s Rumored FIFA Performance Fuels Global Buzz

A native of Toronto, Drake previously commented on the excitement about the World Cup—especially because of the diverse communities around his city, which will host the tournament’s opening game on June 12, 2026. “Canada, in general, is an amazing melting pot. But there are so many new and different kinds of cultural experiences in Toronto,” he said. FIFA’s ethos for the occasion—the enthusiasm in Callum’s words over the hospitality of Canadians, the excitement about football—is another sentiment expressed again and again by FIFA.

In addition to the possibility of a Drake performance, FIFA has announced that the Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and his bandmate Phil Harvey will be the overseers of the first-of-its-kind halftime show at the final of the tournament, which will take place on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show fit for the biggest sporting event in the world,” Infantino said.
Although the details of Drake’s participation are not confirmed, podcaster Jamil “Mal” Clay teased a potential contributor on a recent episode of Earn Your Leisure.

He pointed to the eye-popping viewership numbers tied to the World Cup and speculated that Drake could be doing something there to rival what Lamar could do at the Super Bowl. “I believe the last count was 1.6 billion,” he said. “Super Bowl is 123 million,” he voiced, referring to the World Cup’s worldwide audience. In the midst of the excitement surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026, there’s a buzz about the potential Drake performance at this moment, which not only contributes to the healing process of sport but also holds the promise of a cultural celebration unlike anything seen before.
