Ye’s rocky history with Drake has taken an unexpected turn, with the rapper expressing a desire for the Toronto star to deliver his eulogy.
In a now-deleted post on X Wednesday (March 5), Ye momentarily veered from his pattern of explosive remarks to reflect on his fraught dynamic with his “Pop Style” collaborator—a rivalry he confessed was fueled by envy. “I saw a video of Drake walking through his house and showing he had a library of rhyme books. Man I wish I could have seen and remembered this when my jealousy overtook me,” he stated. “I love Drake.” He continued, “I’ma say this when I die I need you to speak at [my] funeral.”
Kanye Shifts: From Dissing to Praising Drake’s ‘Gimme a Hug’
The polarizing rap icon, who spent much of the past year locked in a war of words with Drake, has softened his stance in recent weeks—praising the Toronto legend’s latest album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
“‘Gimme a Hug’ is incredible,” he shared on social platforms, reposting Chart Data’s report that the song had climbed to the top of Apple Music’s U.S. rankings. Ye recently offered his perspective on the ongoing clash between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, confessing a tinge of disappointment that the Compton rapper had taken down his longtime rival. “I was like, ‘Man, you killed my nemesis. Where’s the movies if it ain’t no Drake?’” he voiced in a conversation with Justin LaBoy. “Or at least he took him down for a little bit. Maybe it’s like in superhero films where characters like Wolverine or something just goes away for a couple films.”
Ye later threw his support behind Drake, urging him to bounce back after his crushing loss to Kendrick. “You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song,” he said. His remarks stood in sharp contrast to his interview with LaBoy last year, where he accused the Canadian star of manipulating streaming numbers and dismissed his lyrics as meaningless. Yeezy directed his ire at the 6 God on his remix of Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That,” delivering the line: “Where’s Lucian? Serve your master, n-gga / You caught a little bag for your masters, didn’t ya? / Lifetime deal, I feel bad for n-ggas / Y’all so outta sight, outta mind / I can’t even think of a Drake line / Play J. Cole, get the pussy dry.”
