Kevin Durant seemed to take a veiled shot at Kendrick Lamar while praising J. Cole.
Unlike LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan, who have remained neutral, Durant has openly sided with Drake in his feud with the Compton rapper. He doubled down on that stance with a pointed remark on X (formerly Twitter). Weighing in on J. Cole’s widely praised track “Clouds,” Durant remarked, “I don’t care bout none of that fake tough guy shit. This is mastery.”
Many assumed Durant’s post was aimed at Kendrick, sparking a heated exchange between him and fans on social media. When a commenter called him a “fake tough guy,” the former NBA MVP fired back with, “U took that as a personal shot towards your favorite?” Durant followed by expressing that he was “dissing all yall fans who can’t listen to Jcole without saying hes ‘soft’”. An additional fan voiced to Durant, “I bet you asked for permission from the boy if you could show support for Cole, but ONLY if you throw shade at the Boogeyman,” which led the NBA star to reply with “I’m throwing shade at fans like you, been hatin on Cole this whole time. Just listen to the music and stfu.”
Durant Dismisses Kendrick, Embraces Role in Drake’s Music
Durant had earlier downplayed Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime set, remarking, “It meant nothing to me. No thoughts — I didn’t really pay attention to it to be honest. It was a little boring day for a Super Bowl. The game got out of hand. The Super Bowl Halftime Show — I didn’t pay attention to it. I kinda skimmed through the whole thing, to be honest.” Durant even secured an A&R credit on Drake’s For All The Dogs, later shedding light on what led to his involvement, stating, “I’m just there for him whenever Drake wants to talk about life, and he just gave me that title.” Drake has acknowledged him in several tracks, including “Weston Road Flows,” where he spits, “Shout out to KD, we relate, we get the same attention / It’s rainin’ money, Oklahoma City Thunder.”
