Basketball legend Michael Jordan is set to join NBC Sports as a “special contributor” for its NBA coverage, beginning with the 2025–26 season. This marks Jordan’s first formal role in NBA broadcasting and comes as NBC re-enters the NBA broadcasting arena after a hiatus since 2002.
The announcement was made during NBCUniversal’s Upfront event at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Jordan expressed his excitement about contributing to the network he has historical ties with, recalling NBC’s significance during his basketball career, particularly when the network held rights from 1990 to 2002 and covered all six of his championship wins with the Chicago Bulls.
NBC’s return to NBA broadcasting is part of a significant 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal secured alongside Disney and Amazon, which begins in October 2025. The deal includes exclusive streaming of Monday night games on Peacock, regional Tuesday doubleheaders on NBC and Peacock, and the launch of “Sunday Night Basketball” in January 2026.
As a special contributor, Jordan will provide exclusive interviews, pre-recorded segments, and occasional appearances during marquee broadcasts such as Christmas Day games, All-Star Weekend, and the NBA Finals. This role allows Jordan to share his unparalleled insights and experiences with a new generation of basketball fans.
Known for his low media profile since retiring in 2003 and selling the Charlotte Hornets in 2023, Jordan’s involvement is anticipated to significantly boost live TV viewership and engagement for NBA broadcasts. Fans have responded with enthusiasm, underscoring the significance of his return.
