As previously reported, Tory Lanez was attacked by fellow inmate Santino Casio at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Casio reoirteldy stabbed Lanez 14 times, targeting his back, torso, head, and face.The assault resulted in both of Lanez’s lungs collapsing.

The leaked footage, reportedly obtained by The Shade Room, shows Casio attacking Lanez near a stairwell inside the prison. Lanez is seen attempting to escape while being repeatedly stabbed.

Casio has claimed the attack was in self-defense, alleging that Lanez had threatened him. 

Following the incident, a post made to Tory’s Instagram account explained what happened. “Tory was stabbed 14 times- including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus.” 

The post continued, “he is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

The petition, which has already topped 300,000 signatures, argues that Lanez is facing an unjust sentence. “Daystar Peterson, professionally known as Tory Lanez, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence—despite what his legal team describes as overwhelming evidence of prosecutorial misconduct, missing forensic data, and politically motivated sentencing,” it reads. “We, the undersigned, urge California Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a pardon.”

It also references the recent attempt on Lanez’s life, claiming it highlights the urgent danger he’s in. “Now, Tory Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence under deeply contested circumstances. Alarmingly, he also recently survived an alleged attempt on his life while in custody—raising urgent concerns about his safety and well-being.” The petition ends with a powerful quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: “‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ This is one of those moments.”

The attacker, Santino Cosio, is already serving a life sentence. He told TMZ that he stabbed Lanez 14 times after hearing rumors the rapper put a bounty on him. “I wasn’t trying to kill Tory,” Cosio said.

Lanez’s attorneys quickly responded, calling the claims “an absurd fabrication,” and adding: “The recent attempt on his life was savage and ferocious… His continued confinement is both a miscarriage of justice and a threat to his safety. He must be released immediately.”

The discovery of the Instagram activity came as a shock to many who saw the event as a safe space for Black creativity and expression. The comments liked by the convention’s account reportedly included sarcastic jabs and dismissive takes on Megan’s trauma, prompting swift backlash across X and TikTok.

Screenshots spread rapidly. Megan’s fans condemned Dream Con for perceived hypocrisy and betrayal, particularly since the rapper is set to speak at the convention. The timing only intensified the scrutiny. Many questioned how a platform that promotes empowerment could tacitly endorse harmful narratives that re-traumatize a Black woman who has endured a relentless smear campaign since the shooting.

Late last night, Dream Con issued a formal apology via X. “We love and support Megan Thee Stallion,” the statement read. “We deeply regret the recent actions on our social media platforms, which engaged with harmful commentary directed at her. It does not reflect our values, and we take full responsibility.”

The organizers went further, pledging to implement stronger oversight of their social media team to avoid similar incidents. They emphasized their commitment to creating a respectful and inclusive space, stating, “Megan is a cultural icon and a symbol of strength. We stand with her.”

Megan hasn’t directly responded to the incident, but earlier this week she broke her silence with a fiery message on TikTok. In all caps, she condemned the continued attempts to discredit her and made one thing clear: “TORY, YOU SHOT ME!!”

As rumors have begun to spread that Tory Lanez did not shoot Megan in 2020, SZA jumped in the comments of a video by an Instagram user.

“The density !!!!! I’m actually SO shocked at the amount of ppl fully comfortable bullying a woman that’s proven to be a victim of assault ??!” SZA wrote. “Like out loud where other ppl can see you ?? Lmao u finna be stupid OUTLOUD ?”

SZA’s remarks stem from a claim made by Unite the People, “a nonprofit organization that advocates for social justice and affordable legal services in California.”

On May 14, during a press conference, Walter Roberts, the organization’s “lead consultant,” said a new testimony could exonerate Lanez. According to Roberts, Bradley James identified himself as the bodyguard and driver for Kelsey Harris, a key witness and a former friend of Megan.

“Mr. James informed us he was working as the bodyguard and driver for Ms. Kelsey Harris during Mr. Peterson’s trial,” Roberts said at the 48-minute mark here. “Mr. James informed us he was not under a non-disclosure agreement or a confidentiality agreement and was free to speak with Unite the People and that he was doing it because his conscience would not let him not speak and leave a man in prison for something he did not do.”

Alex Spiro, Megan’s lawyer, responded to the claims in an official statement,

HE AINT DARE GET ON THAT STAND AND DENY HE SHOT ME AND THAT WAS HIS CHOICE BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE DID THAT SHIT! IDGAF ABT A BLOG OR A BOT!!! WHY IN TF WOULD ME … MEGAN THEE STALLION HAVE TO LIE ON THIS MF ABT SHOOTING ME!”

In the post, Megan continued to call out Lanez’s denial of shooting her.

 “FACTS ARE FACTS, he did it, it was PROVEN IN COURT fuck the hate campaign on the internet TORY YOU SHOT ME !! Ain’t no new fucking evidence yall been saying the same shit for years,” the post continued.

The final post claimed Lanez had been trying to influence her. It said, “@torylanez ain’t none but a finesser stop calling tryna persuade me to do sh**.” Despite the speculation, Tori insists she had nothing to do with the messages.

Because of this, any attempt to raise funds for him is unlikely to gain widespread public support.

Despite some inappropriate reactions online, many social media users have spoken out against celebrating violence. Lanez’s attorney Jose Baez gave an update to TMZ, stating, “Tory is upbeat. He’s in good spirits. He is recovering. He is a strong young man. He’s expected to make a recovery.”

Officials transferred Lanez from a hospital in the Bakersfield area back to the prison medical facility. He is now able to breathe and speak without assistance. No new charges have been filed against Casio at this time.
