Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. However, on Wednesday, May 14th, his legal team presented new evidence suggesting he did not fire the gun that night. They argue that Megan lied about the events and claim Lanez was never given a fair trial. Gianno Caldwell, who has been advocating for Lanez’s justice, stated, “Mr. Peterson was never given a fair trial, free from bias.”
The press conference, organized by United the People, a non-profit focused on social justice, highlighted evidence that points to Megan’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, as the person who fired the shots. Attorney Walter Roberts argued, “Mr. Peterson never shot anybody. Never even touched the gun.” He explained that Harris fired at Megan three times, and Lanez only attempted to intervene, which led to the gun firing two additional times. According to Roberts, there was a significant discrepancy in the DNA evidence, as only Lanez’s DNA was found on the weapon, despite traces of unknown DNA on it.
Diana London, CEO of the Secret Weapon Agency, also voiced her belief that Lanez is innocent, stating, “Tory Lanez doesn’t want special treatment. He’s demanding equal treatment.” London emphasized the importance of fairness and integrity in the legal process. Journalist Gianno Caldwell, in his ongoing efforts for justice, criticized the actions of former Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, especially the lack of forensic evidence and DNA testing on all potential suspects. Caldwell also raised questions about why Kelsey Harris pleaded the Fifth Amendment, despite not being formally accused or investigated by Megan or the police.
