Nicki Minaj is once again the target of a dangerous “swatting” incident. On Wednesday night, the rapper’s Los Angeles-area home was swarmed by law enforcement after a false report of a shooting. According to TMZ, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department received a call just after 7 PM claiming there had been an assault at a residence in Hidden Hills, where Minaj lives. Deputies rushed to the scene only to find no one home and no signs of trouble.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the call did not come through 911, but rather the sheriff’s business line. The unidentified caller claimed a Black woman had been shot at the property and that two people were still there. Authorities later confirmed the call was a hoax and classified it as a swatting incident.

Swatting involves falsely reporting a serious crime to prompt a heavy police response, often putting lives at risk. Unfortunately, this isn’t Minaj’s first time being targeted. In both July and August of 2023, she was swatted—one call alleged a shooting at her home, and another falsely reported child abuse.

Wednesday’s call comes on the heels of a tragic swatting case in Atlanta. A 911 caller falsely claimed a naked woman was being assaulted at a home where rapper Young Scooter was present. During the police response, a man fled the scene, jumped a fence, and fatally injured himself by severing a femoral artery. No criminal activity was found at the house, and the caller—later identified as a former reality TV contestant—was arrested and charged with making a false police report.

Nicki Minaj and her family were not even in California during Wednesday’s incident.
