Erica Mena has issued a heartfelt apology to Nicki Minaj, admitting she was misled by their mutual ex, Safaree, into harboring negative feelings toward the rap icon. Speaking on the “Dumb Blonde” podcast, Mena opened up about her regrets and her evolving perspective on Minaj, taking responsibility for her past comments.
“I owe her the biggest apology,” Mena said, candidly addressing Minaj.
She claimed Safaree manipulated her by sharing damaging narratives about Minaj, stories she now believes were untrue. “It’s funny how life comes full circle,” Mena reflected. “The same thing he did to her, he’s doing to me years later.”
Mena recounted how Safaree would “pour his heart out,” often showing her videos of Minaj reacting to incidents he framed in a particular light. She admitted she never questioned his role in those conflicts at the time. Later, she discovered Safaree had allegedly been trying to sabotage Minaj’s career while taking undue credit for her work.
“I owe this woman an apology,” Mena reiterated. “I sat here and allowed him to talk about her to me. Because of that, I defended him and spoke poorly about her. It was tacky. At the end of the day, I didn’t know the truth.” She concluded her remarks by supporting Minaj’s past criticisms of Safaree: “Everything she has ever said about him is true.”
This isn’t the first time Mena has voiced regret about her relationship with Safaree, with whom she shares two children. In July, she expressed deep embarrassment about their past, especially after he publicly admitted his breakup with Minaj was his most difficult struggle.
“I will FOREVER be embarrassed I gave sis these incredible, beautiful babies,” Mena posted on Instagram. “He doesn’t even talk or care about his seeds this much online or in real life.”
Mena’s relationship with Minaj has been fraught over the years. In 2022, Mena described Minaj as “great at what she does” but said she wasn’t a fan of her music, calling it “cartoony” and accusing Minaj of “biting” Lil’ Kim’s style.
Nicki Minaj has not directly responded to Mena’s apology but appeared to address the ongoing custody drama between Mena and Safaree in a cryptic Instagram post. “I don’t know who needed to hear this, but good for you,” Minaj said, laughing before adding, “You see, sometimes you need to leave people dem alone.”
The evolving dynamics between Mena, Safaree, and Minaj serve as a cautionary tale about loyalty, truth, and the consequences of misplaced trust.
