Roy Wood Jr. has been tapped to host the 46th annual Sports Emmy Awards.
The award-winning comedian, writer, and producer will host the awards show that “recognizes excellence in American sports television coverage” will take place Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall.
Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS, lauded Wood for his comedic brilliance.
“Roy is a true multihyphenate—an Emmy-nominated storyteller, a razor-sharp comedian and a dynamic force in entertainment,” said Sharp. “With his ability to engage, entertain, and enlighten—paired with his genuine passion for sports—we can’t wait for the audience to see him in action.”
Wood noted that t “sports can inspire you to laugh or cry, inspire us all to be better humans or inspire us to punch a stranger in the face. It’s an honor to host such an amazing event as we honor those entrusted with telling these stories.”
Wood Jr. came to prominence after serving 8 years as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s Emmy-winning The Daily Show from 2015 to 2023. In 2023, Wood Jr. guest hosted The Daily Show and headlined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, garnering the highest ratings for the event since 2017. In January 2025, Wood released his fourth stand-up special, Lonely Flowers, which premiered on Hulu to critical acclaim.
Currently, Wood Jr. is the host of Have I Got News for You, on CNN which an American adaptation of a long-running UK comedy series and is in its second season.
In film, Wood Jr. is slated to appear alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming comedy ‘Outcome’ and has a cameo in the Sundance film Love, Brooklyn. He recently partnered with Crown Publishing to pen a memoir, The Man of Many Fathers, which is set to be released in Fall 2025.
