Sean “Diddy” Combs was at the center of explosive testimony Tuesday as his former personal assistant, David James, continued taking the stand in the federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial unfolding in New York City. James described a chilling 2008 standoff in Los Angeles that involved another controversial figure in hip hop, Suge Knight.

James told the jury he was sent to pick up cheeseburgers at Mel’s Diner while driving a Lincoln Navigator with a man named D-Roc. While at the restaurant, D-Roc spotted Suge Knight and went over to speak with him. Knight didn’t seem to recognize D-Roc, who identified himself by saying, “I’m Biggie’s boy,” in reference to the late Notorious B.I.G., who was murdered in Los Angeles in 1997.

According to James, that moment set off alarm bells and escalated into what felt like a potential standoff. He noticed four black SUVs surrounding the parking lot and claimed he saw someone hand a firearm to Knight. D-Roc quickly told him they needed to get out of there, and they left the area immediately.

When they returned to Diddy’s home, James said he saw Cassie crying. Diddy got into another car with James, and they headed back toward Mel’s Diner. James testified that during the ride he saw “three guns on Diddy’s lap.” When they arrived, Knight was no longer there, but Combs allegedly told him to keep driving around the block.

James said the entire experience, including the standoff, left him rattled. He made the decision to part ways with Combs following that night. Turning down any further opportunities with the mogul, James told the court, “My life was at risk.”
