Reginae Carter has opened up about the reasons behind her split from YFN Lucci, shedding light on the challenges they faced while he was incarcerated.

During an interview on Reality With The King with Carlos King, the daughter of rap icon Lil Wayne reflected on their relationship and Lucci’s recent release from prison. Their romance, which began when she was 19 and he was 27 with four children, unfolded under the glare of public scrutiny.

“I don’t know—I was 19, and I always had a crush on him,” Carter admitted. “He reminded me of what I was used to. He courted me, gave me what I liked.” His status as a rapper, she explained, made his lifestyle feel familiar. Having grown up with a father in the industry, dating an artist seemed natural. “I’m used to a rapper. My father is a rapper. It felt like home,” she added.

Despite describing Lucci as a “sweetheart,” Carter revealed where things unraveled. Women began reaching out with claims of infidelity, forcing her to confront painful truths. When asked why she ultimately walked away, she didn’t hesitate. “I’m saying don’t date these rappers. They’re no good,” she said bluntly. “You have fun with them, but that’s it.”

Carter admitted she struggled with that mindset because she wasn’t looking for casual flings. “I’m such a lover girl,” she confessed. “If I like you, I’m going to love you. I’m going to fall in love.” The breaking point, she revealed, was discovering Lucci’s involvement with another woman—one he remains with today.

“I was young. I probably would have waited,” she admitted. “But you see, he has a girlfriend now. She’s been around.” Carter confirmed that Lucci had been seeing the woman throughout their relationship, from its early days up until his 2021 arrest. The revelation hurt, but she has since moved on.

“Yes, it did hurt,” she acknowledged. “But I forgive him. At the end of the day, I was young. There are things she was willing to do that I wasn’t. That’s just what it is. You have to give and take.”

Despite the past, Carter made it clear there’s no lingering resentment. “I’m happy for him,” she said. “I’m glad he’s out with his family. We move on.”

Lucci, born Rayshawn Lamar Bennett, faced serious charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and gang-related activity. In January, he took a plea deal, receiving a 20-year sentence with parole eligibility. Though granted time served, he remained behind bars through 2024.
