A volatile rift is deepening in hip-hop’s upper ranks as Young Thug denounces Kid Cudi for his testimony in the federal sex trafficking case against Sean “Diddy” Combs—labeling the move as betrayal.

On May 22, Cudi took the stand and recounted a string of chilling confrontations involving Diddy, including a break-in at his home and harm inflicted on his pet. Hours later, Young Thug—whose own legal battles loom large—shared, then swiftly deleted a post on X, writing, “Damn Cudi a rat lol.” The remark landed like a grenade, reflecting the fraught emotions coursing through an already incendiary trial.

Adding intrigue to the crosscurrents is Brian Steel, the defense attorney representing Young Thug in his RICO case, who now also joins Diddy’s legal team. Cudi’s appearance on the witness stand delved into his past romantic link with Cassie, Diddy’s former partner, whom he briefly dated in 2011. That relationship, he testified, coincided with Cassie’s breakup with Diddy. Cudi described a particularly harrowing December night that same year, when Diddy allegedly discovered the relationship. “I got a call from Cassie. She was scared,” Cudi said. Shortly after, a friend warned him Diddy was reportedly inside his home.

Cudi recounts incidents of intimidation as the case unfolds

Cudi returned to find his security system disabled, his belongings rifled through, and his dog locked in the bathroom—shaken and injured. “My dog was jittery and on edge,” he told the court. He said the break-in left him deeply unsettled and led him to contact police. “I wanted to fight him,” Cudi said, referencing his reaction to the incident. His police report, filed soon after, added weight to his claims.

Then came another act of intimidation. In early 2012, Cudi learned from his dog sitter that his car had been firebombed with a Molotov cocktail while he was away. He alerted authorities upon returning home. Despite the cascade of threats, Cudi said he eventually met with Diddy. The encounter, he claimed, helped him reach a sense of closure. “I wanted to find peace,” he said, noting that Diddy denied involvement in the arson.

With the trial ongoing, this testimony highlights how blurred the line has become between private vendettas and public justice. In a case already riddled with power plays and historic allegations, the fallout between Cudi and Young Thug may foreshadow deeper divisions still to come—both in court and across the culture at large.
