Rod Wave’s latest album, Last Lap, made an impressive debut, with 130,000 units sold and securing the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, as reported on Monday, October 21.

Just behind Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken, the Florida-born artist joins the ranks of Taylor Swift as one of the only musicians to have consistently debuted a project within the Top 10 every year since 2019.

According to Luminate data, Last Lap garnered 127,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, with a staggering 125,000 of those coming from on-demand streams. This latest achievement adds to Rod Wave’s string of chart-topping albums, following 2019’s Ghetto Gospel, which reached No. 10, 2020’s Pray 4 Love at No. 2, and three consecutive No. 1 albums: SoulFly (2021), Beautiful Mind (2022), and Nostalgia (2023).

The release of Last Lap was anticipated by singles such as “Passport Junkie” and “Fall Fast in Love,” and features collaborations with notable artists like Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, and Rylo Rodriguez. As a pioneer of trap soul, Rod Wave continues to innovate with his emotionally charged sound, connecting deeply with his audience. In support of the album, he’s hitting the road for his “Last Lap Tour,” which will run until mid-December.

In an interview last year, Rod Wave reflected on the surreal feeling of being compared to Taylor Swift. “You can’t even wrap your head around that kind of s**t,” he remarked, remembering his high school days when he would listen to Swift’s “Blank Space” on the school bus. “Now I’m really in the game. I went from being on the sidelines to the franchise player with three rings.”

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200 chart dated October 26, GloRilla’s GLORIOUS landed at No. 5. The Memphis rapper previously joked about competing with Rod Wave for chart supremacy.

“He’s got crazy fans,” she told Billboard. “I’m one of them, so I know that when Rod Wave drops, it’s like the whole music world shuts down. I didn’t want anyone to drop on my day. I wanted it to be special, but it’s OK, we can share.”

Rod Wave’s Last Lap is yet another testament to his growing influence in the music industry, and his dedicated fanbase is likely to keep propelling him to new heights.
