DJ Akademiks and Bootleg Kev exchange words after Big AK claims that Drake is facing suppression in today’s radio.
According to DJ Akademiks, several major radio stations and streaming platforms are deliberately reducing Drake’s airplay—allegedly in retaliation for his ongoing lawsuit against Universal Music Group. The theory, while speculative, has gained traction in certain online spaces where Drake’s fanbase is eager to identify possible industry pushback.
Bootleg Kev, a veteran radio personality, was quick to dismiss the notion. “Suppression, my ass,” he wrote, brushing off the claim as baseless.
Akademiks retaliated with one of his unfiltered rants. “Washed, struggling, bitch-made alopecia-surviving radio host and low-ranking member of the Kendrick Meatrider Militia ‘Bootleg Kev’ scoffs at the idea of suppressing Drake’s hit ‘Nokia,’” he posted, turning a dispute over airplay into a scorched-earth character assault.
The exchange adds fuel to a larger narrative swirling around Drake’s latest legal battle. Since launching a defamation lawsuit against UMG earlier this year, the rapper has positioned himself as an industry whistleblower, alleging corruption, stream manipulation, and targeted defamation from some of the biggest players in the music business. In that context, any dip in support from media gatekeepers is being scrutinized closely by his camp.
Whether there’s a coordinated effort to quiet Drake’s influence—or simply a shifting cultural tide in favor of Kendrick Lamar’s momentum—is still unclear. But Akademiks seems committed to casting Drake as a figure under siege, with media personalities like Kev painted as complicit in a broader industry smear campaign.
