Drake has revealed that he’s already back in the studio working on his next album—just weeks after teaming up with PARTYNEXTDOOR on $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which dropped in February. The announcement came during a livestream with Adin Ross on Stake this past Sunday (April 13). While speaking casually with the streamer, Drake hinted that his next solo effort is in the works and confidently described it as a “slap,” heightening anticipation for what’s to come. “I’m working on a new album right now,” he told viewers, confirming it would be a solo project without guest collaborators.

Later in the stream, the conversation shifted toward celebrity boxing. When asked if he’d ever consider stepping into the ring, Drake quickly dismissed the idea with a short “no” and an unimpressed expression. Still, he left the door open for a less public kind of confrontation, cracking a joke that felt laced with meaning. After Ross playfully suggested he knew who Drake should box—hinting at Kendrick Lamar—the Toronto artist quipped, “If there’s a fight, it’s happening at Hino’s gym—no cameras, just garage doors.”

Insiders Stoke Kendrick-Drake Tension Amid Fight Rumors

The two rap heavyweights have a history of tension, which others in the industry have exacerbated. Earlier this year, West Coast rapper Glasses Malone appeared on the BagFuel podcast and claimed Kendrick might actually be looking for a fight. “The only person who really wants to fight Drake is Dot,” Malone said, referring to Kendrick by his nickname. “He doesn’t let things go. Kendrick holds on to everything, even stuff from way back.”

He painted Kendrick as someone with a serious edge, noting, “People think he’s this good kid in a mad city, but he’s not that innocent. He’s got jokes and a temper. I’ve had to pull him back from fights before—on tour buses and all kinds of wild places.” Meanwhile, Akademiks has also been known to stir up controversy in the past. On one of his Rumble streams, the media personality suggested that Drake would be open to a fight, saying, “Drake wants a squabble. I’d take him to Compton myself, and he’d handle Kendrick.”

So far, Kendrick Lamar has kept quiet about all the chatter. Whether this will escalate beyond words remains to be seen. For now, fans have something else to look forward to: Drake’s next album, which, by his words, is already shaping up to be a major release.
