Gilbert Arenas speaks out after son alijah’s fiery car crash.
Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has broken his silence following a serious car accident that left his 18-year-old son, Alijah Arenas, hospitalized.
As previously reported, ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania tweeted: “Five-star prospect and USC commit Alijah Arenas was involved in a serious car crash early Thursday morning, hospitalized and placed into an induced coma, sources tell ESPN. Arenas, 18, is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.”
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, in Los Angeles. Alijah was reportedly driving his Tesla Cybertruck when he collided with a tree and a fire hydrant, resulting in a fiery crash.
Gilbert Arenas says his sons Cybertruck malfunctioned causing the accident.“The car malfunctioned on him,” Arenas told the “All The Smoke” podcast. “The steering wheel went limp and ran him right into a tree.”
He continued, “he couldn’t break the window. Physically, he said he was trying to kick the window in and couldn’t. If you’re a parent and your teen has this car, you might want to put a hammer in that joint,” he warned.
Alijah has since been discharged from the hospital and recovering.
“I gave him that speech. You’re a lucky one to see this. Most people don’t get to see the flowers and how everyone reacts when something happens…You can’t take this shit for granted,” Gilbert told his son following his hospital release.
Alijah committed to USC in January after being ranked the No. 4 player and No. 1 shooting guard in the class of 2026.
