Tory Lanez is recovering after a reported stabbing incident in prison, and while his legal team confirms he’s now in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, some Megan Thee Stallion fans have sparked controversy by raising funds for his alleged attacker.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Lanez had been brutally attacked by another inmate. The attacker allegedly stabbed him 14 times across his back, torso, head, and face. The stabbing caused both of his lungs to collapse, and medical staff quickly put him on a breathing machine after the attack.
Authorities placed Casio in restricted housing following the incident as they continue to investigate the case. Casio is currently serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for murder, attempted murder, and using a deadly weapon. Prison officials say he has previously assaulted other inmates. Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020. In the wake of the attack, some online supporters of Megan have expressed support for Casio. A GoFundMe created in his name has already raised more than $2,500 toward a goal of $20,000, according to a screenshot shared by No Jumper.
According to the New York Post, GoFundMe and similar crowdfunding platforms usually ban fundraising for people convicted of violent crimes. This policy would apply to Santino Casio, who is serving a life sentence for murder. Casio has a criminal history and a reputation as a repeat offender behind bars. Because of this, any attempt to raise funds for him is unlikely to gain widespread public support.
Despite some inappropriate reactions online, many social media users have spoken out against celebrating violence. Lanez’s attorney Jose Baez gave an update to TMZ, stating, “Tory is upbeat. He’s in good spirits. He is recovering. He is a strong young man. He’s expected to make a recovery.”
Officials transferred Lanez from a hospital in the Bakersfield area back to the prison medical facility. He is now able to breathe and speak without assistance. No new charges have been filed against Casio at this time.
